Has anyone experienced hair loss from taking these drugs. I have heard lamictal can cause it. My Pdoc is weaining me off it. I had taken it for several years and heard it can start causing it at anytime. I always had nice thick hair now the thought of losing my hair terrifys me. My GP has taken many blood tests, I still waiting to get results back. She is scheduling me to see an specialist on this too. It may be my thyroid, she reduced it again that is what the specialist is going to check out.

I never had this problem with lamictal, but my son did. But he has so much hair to start with, it was only noticeable to him.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble interpreting your post; are you saying that you are losing hair, or are afraid that you'll start losing your hair? I've been on Lamictal since June and I've never had this problem. I've heard of Depakote and lithium causing hairloss, but not Lamictal. Are you on any other meds, or just Lamictal?

I have this problem w/ most pschotropic meds., including Lamictal. Recently, I stopped taking Celexa b/c my hair was coming out in clumps every time I washed it. My hair is very fine to begin with. That AD was the only one I've tried that helped me, even if I was still suicidal. I'm having a v. tough time now, & it's so frustrating. All of these meds. have so many side effects!!!

Hypothyroidism can cause hair to fall out excessively, break easily and take much longer to grow back. I'm not understanding what you mean by "she reduced it again"? Do you mean your thyroid replacement medication or the Lamictal?

I've had hypothyroidism for over 15 years. My hair got very thin before I got up to a proper dose. (for me)

Hope things get better for you soon.
Thanks for this!

Thank you I sure do hope so too.
My regular Dr changed my thryoid med from 175mcg now to 150mcg. Back in the summer I was on 200 mcg when Doc lowered it to 175, it was causing me to lose a lot of weight. Now on 150 mcg, I am hoping so much it will stop my hair from falling out on this new dose. The lamictal has been taken away completely. In this situation it can be so many things. We have to keep trying. I am getting scheduled to see an endocrinologist soon. The only psych meds I am on now is welbutrin, and resperidal. I'm also taking Biotin, multivitamins , folic acid.

Yes, I'm losing my hair. Pdoc agreed with me that Lamictal could be the cause of it, he said he had a patient on it before experience what I'm going through. I still am taking a couple of psych meds welbutrin and resiperdal plus a thyroid med. My thyroid med was just lowered from 175 mcg to 150 mcg. I am so hoping this is it and stops my hair falling out. The Pdoc and regular Doc are doing everything they know of right now. I'm being scheduled to see an endocrinologist. I'm on Biotin, a multivitamin and folic acid as well.

I experienced hair loss with Celexa, Wellbutrin, Risperdal, and a few other anti-depressents, but it was especially severe with Wellbutrin.

When and how long have you been on Wellbutrin and Risperdal?

Kibo AD = Anti-Depressant.

Everyone- I don't want to hijack this thread, but since we are all concerned with the same issue- medications & anti-depressants that don't cause hair to fall out- can anyone who is highly sensitive to meds w/ this side effect recommend a med that works & doesn't seem to cause this??? I hope it's okay that I asked this. Thanks.

Unfortunately, it is a very individual thing. Not everyone experiences the same side effects from the same meds.
