Is this a "drug question"?
Prozac is in a capsule form, and states do not chew, dissolve on tongue, just swallow it. I'm sure it is for a reason.
Most meds need to be swallowed and reach the intestinal tract to be absorbed and distributed through the bloodstream, I'm almost positive this applies to SSRI's.
I wouldn't recommend doing anything other than swallowing the med as directed so you can get the full effect of it as it was intended.
Larry, T-MD, or Cam, please elaborate on or correct my reply, to help Miss A fully understand the function of prozac in the body/brain.

Thanks,
DE

Take care now, Miss A

DE

Well, several of us have told you several times, it takes 2-4 weeks to see any changes positive, negative or if any at all. So don't lose patience, give it more time.
Also if it turns out that prozac isn't for you, there are many other meds. that can be the alternative.
Keep faith, you have many here cheering for you and efforts you decide to make to get through this stuff.
Good luck with this, and remember patience even if it is challenging at times, the challenge is worth it I love fluxetine (prozac) !

Please take care now,

DE

Uhh, DE, this is one case where there's nothing to worry about. Though taking medication precisely as directed is always a good idea.

There is a liquid version of Prozac available, which shows that there is no concern about the drug reaching the stomach in solid form. Uptake is slow, and may primarily be from the intestine, but there are no interactions with food, etc.

Your vigilance is appreciated.

Miss A, your prior history of paracetamol abuse makes me concerned, given how you describe your interest in "the addictive" flavour of fluoxetine. I trust that you are taking the medication only at the dose and frequency prescribed by your physician.

It may be some weeks before you "feel anything" from the medication, and it may also be necessary for your physician to increase the dose before response is noted. Drugs in this class have delayed reactions, for reasons not yet fully explained. Do try to be patient.

Miss A, you can overdose on Prozac, but it's not the way I would want to die, hyperthermia & convulsions.
Paracetamol overdose is a horrible death too, liver failure that takes days. Often, people who do take too much paracetamol live long enough to regret it.

And can I add to this?
Miss A, as you well know, if a person feels suicidal, wanting to overdose, they should seek immediate professional help, not hint around about such a serious issue.

Thank you,
DE
