Did any of you use Abilify and gain a lot of weight and or become diabetic on it?

I was just given samples of it yesterday, and I am too afraid to take it, as diabetes runs in my family.

Abilify is a weight gainer for most people. It's hard to say how much weight you will gain. I don't think it's related to getting diabetes the way Zyprexa is. Why are you taking it? Is it to augment the Effexor or are you using it as a mood stabiliser?

I just started Abilify and am also worried about gaining weight or getting diabetes (I am anorexix and insulin resistant). Aside from those side effects, the worst is the feeling of having an extreme amount of energy. I can't sit still, get comfortable, sleep well, or focus very long. My mood has drastically improved though. I also take 120mg of Cymbalta, so the Abilify is helping that work along with being a mood stabilizer. I was told that if there is a chance of being diabetic, they want to monitor your blood sugars. They have not suggested this for me yet, but I will be asking my pdoc about it when I see her later this week. (I was put on Abilify while in the hospital.) I was also told that Abilify is less likely to cause weight gain than other mood stabilizers. The side effects are not as severe as in the others either.
