I have been taking Seroquel for over three years. I took it initially for mania. It had the effect of improving my sleep which had been poor for ages. For this reason, I stuck with it. This year I have been suffering lots of anxiety and depression. I have tried reducing the dosage but my sleep suffers straight away. I am convinced that the Seroquel is causing much of my problem. I felt so much better when I lowered the dosage. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow.
Does anyone have any ideas for possible alternative medication? Something that will help me stay asleep. I rarely have problems falling asleep. Without the medication, I wake at 2am to 4am. Thanks.. __________________ Regards, Clive |

I am on quet for similar reasons to you but i also really suffer sleep probs if I dont take them. Quet can be good for anx tho so it may not be that. Its good you are seeing your doc tomorrow - hope it goes ok __________________ She's got the eyes of innocence, the face of an angel, a personality of a dreamer and a smile that hides more pain than you could ever imagine. |

Other sedating medications that I know of that can be used for mania and are also approved as mood stabilizing medications are Zyprexa and Risperdal. Also, Seroquel XR is available if you want to go that route too. For anxiety (as needed) you could ask your doctor about a benzodiazapine (anti-anxiety) medication such as ativan, xanax, valium, klonopin.
2 other medications I know of that can help sleep which are antidepressants are Trazadone and Remeron, but be careful because I wouldn't want you to switch into a manic state from taking them. Of course, let the doctor know everything know that is going on so they know best how to help you. I wish you the best, Andy. |

I find Abilify is a great med. It is not known for causing you to sleep though so will have to be taken in the morning. Geodon is sedating if you can get past the side effects. It didn't work much for me but does for others. Also, you can try taking melatonin to aid in sleep. comes in 3 or 5mg in most stores.
