feary, have you and your doc tried different or smaller dosages spread out through the day?

I was thinking it might give you a more consistantly even level of relief instead of the up and down of feeling the medication's effect, then having it wear off.

Are you also in therapy to try to help your anxiety? I find it good to work in tandem with a therapist and a psychiatrist.

I'm currently in the works of finding a tdoc though a facility where I live. I have an intake appt Sept 30. But yes, it might be best to do medication and therapy. Me, I take 1mg of Ativan four times a day.

Even if you have to take daily benzodiazapine therapy, remember it's not for life, and you can always work on reducing the dose when things settle down and I've been on benzodiazapines now for over a year and I've not been hooked to the medication nor needed med increases, so I've been pretty good.

So, even if you need smaller doses throughout the day to help with anxiety and panic, it's worth it, if it helps.

Best of luck,
Andy.

theres also xanax xr which is a long acting form of xanax so you won't have to worry about it wearing off more than once a day

I never had any luck with Xanax. It didn't do anything. I found that Klonopin worked pretty well and did not make me doppy feeling. Also if your anxiety is that severe then your pdoc should consider valium. I now have Valium 5mg TID. I only take it when I really need it but it works like a charm.

I find clonazapam (klonopin) much better for managing anxiety as it's longer lasting. And I take it spread out through the day. 1 Mg 3X daily.
