I've been on it for over a year. Have quite a few on in my life. i guess being with a bipolar daughter who has her up and downs and just trying to deal with everyday life and paying bills on time.

My want to be psychiatrist discontinued my lorazepam after calling her office for 3 days I finally went there in person. She told me she wanted to take me off them but what am I suppose to take instead?

Now I'm searching for a new psychiatrist who will listen to my feelings and not belittle me and basically tell me to move on in life.
I truly wish it was that easy. The withdrawal symptoms were unbearable I finally had to go to an emergency doctors office and get a script for two weeks.
The search is on for a psychiatrist if they want me to be taken off lorazepam fine but cold turkey. I felt like my body wasn't even mine .I was slowly feeling as if I was going to have a break down.

What can I be on to reduce my anxiety I thought lorazepam was the lowest form an anti anxiety med a person could be on????

any help is appreciated since now I have to find a new psychiatrist--have two weeks...

I'm very suprised a doctor would cut you off cold turkey. I'm very glad you have a new psychiatrist. Perhaps you could try effexor xr or lexapro. They both have anti-anxiety properties.

Cold turkey can be FATAL. Seriously, you should report this doctor.

I tapered but still my withdrawal was pretty horrific. Honestly I tried to sleep as much as possible, since nothing seemed to ease the anxiety. But eventually it passed.

Best of luck to you.

I took one milligram of Lorazepam for about 13 days. I had some amnesia so my doctor said to stop taking it and take another pill which would take four weeks to work. I became sick and figured I was withdrawing from the Lorzepam. My doctor said you had to go off it slowly. I cut my dose in half one day and felt normal. I did that the next day and was all right. The next day I didn't take any and had to be rushed to the hospital. I thought I would die on the way. I was in terrible shape. Just to treat some very minor anxiety. Half a milligram twice a day for 13 days and I became so addicted that I had to be rushed into the hopital where they immediately took care of me and took cat scans etc. In a while they gave me 2 milligrams of the hair of the dog that bit me and I felt fine again. I got no euphoric pick-me-up from the drug and the only thing I noticed was some amnesia, which scared me. This stuff is just too addictive to even consider taking. Stay far away. Now I have the tough job of kicking a habit of a drug I don't even crave but must take to keep from being put in the hospital. Find something safe. As for myself, I'm going to man-up, and if I feel anxious, I'll have myself a nice, cold beer with a friend.

While it is dangerous to be taken off it suddenly, 13 days is not a long time to be on it so I think you might be safe on the seizure side effect. But I am not a doctor so don't quote me on that. The longer you are on it the more withdrawl symptoms you will expereince....that has been my experience and the experience of my clients anyway. It sounds like you have a pretty violent reaction to being taken off it. It is a very powerful drug to some. Having a beer or glass of wine may help to relax you, but don't let it take the place of medication...it could become an adiction you would not otherwise want. I would search around for a new pdoc and explain what has happened in the past....but be careful as to not sound as if you are "drug seeking".

I'm really surprised they took you off immediately. I've been taking Lorazapam for a few months now, along with Lunesta, to try to sleep.

For my anxiety, my pdoc has put my Paxil. She started at the lowest dose and we're now up to the max dosage of 60mg. I think it's started helping to even my moods and lessen my anxiety. Have you ever thought about looking into one of these?

Good luck with finding someone Truth!!
