I am currently taking Lexapro (I try to only take 15mg a day) Today is my 3rd day off a meds. I want to stop taking it because it makes me feel hyper and and I don't feel like myself. I don't feel like I have my true emotions. Anyway. Are there precautions that I should take when getting of depression meds?

Tapering off slowly is best. If you feel any symptoms, such as headaches, nausea, etc., resume taking them and then see if you can skip a day and work on that til you're off of them. you may get "electrical zaps" in your neck and head. that's common. don't let it scare you. we've all experienced that. good luck, pat

You shouldn't go off your medication without your doctor giving you the ok to do it. IF you are feeling that bad on them you should tell you doctor and figure out whether or not you need to up your current dose, lower it, go on another med all together or ween you off.
Talk to your doctor before you do anything, let him/her give you the ok to come off. How long have you been on it? |

I've been on it since June. How long does it take to get out of your system?

I think it varies for everyone. 24 hrs to get out of your system maybe?
that's how long it was for me, but people it took longer. But you got to be careful because someone getting off meds when they aren't ready for it can crash miserably, and it can be dangerous. I know how that feels because when I was med free I crashed horribly and that is when I went on Remeron. Talk to your doctor before making any decisions, never do this on your own. |

I SECOND THAT.
You shouldn't ever go off depression meds without your doctor's close supervision. Discuss with your doc the problems you're having. It's much safer to go that way, because I've seen people majorly crash and its' not pretty. Please take care. Kimberly |
