Are there any? I was thinking of trying Paxil, because I don't want to go back on Zoloft because it was making me feel numb, but I hear Paxil does that too, is that typical of SSRIs? Seems like all the anti-depressants I've heard of are SSRIs... which would make sense since it's the seratonin that's the problem... sounds like a no-win situation I guess.

There are other categories that work with different neurotransmitters, they are the predecessors (sp?) so they are in an older category, but are also still prescribed,if Iwere you I'd check with your pdoc on the different options, beleive me I know about SSRI "poop out".
I can't remember the various meds. one group are called tri-cyclics, but check with your doc anyway. I personally do not take any of the AD's anymore just a mood stabilizer (anti-convulsant) Lamictal, which has great AD properties but yet is not an AD. Just don't give up hope, there are many options that your pdoc and you can explore ![]() DE In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON

Don't have a pdoc... just a family practitioner. Maybe I should see a pdoc... don't really want to see anyone though. I don't think medicine's going to help, hate to mess with seeing a doctor at all... waste of money/time/anxiety. Maybe I won't.

GP's are NOT the right doc to see, you need to see a psychiatrist, they are the experts for determining the right meds and proper dosages, general practitioners are not pdocs, sure they can write out prescriptions for psyc.meds but are not the same as a pdoc, pdocs have you come perhaps, once a month after being assigned certain med(s) and observe how they are doing, they know better than a gp what to try with you and can give you pdoc feedback, gp's are good at what they do and vice versa.
It is sad that some people do not want to address any of their emotional or psychological problem, byt just seeing your gp for these kind of related things you are not helping yourself, for some maybe partially, but the type of treament continuity should be with a pdoc and even talk therapy added would be a good idea. There is nothing to be ashamed of, the thin I think is ashame is when people forfiet the chance to get better because of the stigma or shame they feel. Life is short, I ask myself why would anyone want to live it miserably when there ARE choices, many good options. You stated that you feel seeing a doc is a waste of money, time and anxiety? That is only if you want it to be. If you are interested in seeing a pdoc, you can even ask your gp for a referral, or check at your local hospital with their directory, see if they have a behavioural health department, they would certainly be able to direct you. Don't give up on yourself, life is short and there is still so many things you haven't seen or felt out there, you may not realize it now, depression clouds over so much, but once getting treatment, and/or talk therapy things will get better, it is you that holds the power within, with help you will see life is worth it, so go out there and live it, enjoy what you can ![]() In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON

I don't know about this. I can't afford much, anyway, with at least $20/visit or prescription, since I don't make much but have a ton of costs w/ school, and the need for some padding in case my car breaks, as I'm afraid it might. I guess maybe I'll consider it if my pastor were to suggest it, I guess I'm going to talk w/ him soon, and he knows about this stuff, almost done with his counselling master's. He'll probably want to try referring me to a counselor - again, although my experiences w/ counsellors have been less than confidence-inspiring.

Hello Tav,
Really sorry to hear about the troubles you are having. Even if you have to spend some money on copays for medications it is well worth it...really it is. If you ask your primary doc or a psych. for samples they are usually will to accommodate you. My primary doc gave me a free 3 month supply of my medication because I couldn't afford the copay of 45 dollars. Give it a shot you have nothing to lose. As far as counselors talk with your pastor or doc about finding a good therapist in your area. Well good luck! Keep us posted! ![]() Jennifer ![]() |

[b]Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) <hr></blockquote> Really, I didn't realize that. I don't know why I had the idea Wellbutrin's an SSRI. Wasn't too sure about the idea of trying some old thing I'd never heard of in place of the newer, commonly prescribed SSRIs, but I'll have to ask about it if I do end up seeing my doctor. Which is what a couple people are probably going to push me to do, soon. ![]() Thanks

No one can push you to go see a doctor, I think the reasons to why they are reccomending it because they have made progress, and want to see you get help and do the same.
I have no regrets seeing a psychiatrist, i've been seeing here since i was 16 and i'm 24 now and she has done me wonders, and continues to do so after 8 years. I really hope you consider it. Therapy is always hard at first cause it's new but i'm sure you will also find it beneficial. Good luck hon. <font color=red>~Sundance~</font color=red> <font color=blue>"Never react emotionally to criticism. Analyze yourself to determine whether it is justified. If it is, correct yourself.
