Since I was diagnosed with bipolar and started my medication I have had a hard time trying to lose weight. I Had an eating disorder before but am trying really hard to lose the weight the right way this time. I count my calories and I try to work out every day. I feel like I have no ambition since I've started my medication and I feel I'm having a hard time losing weight due to my medication. Does anyone else seem to have this problem?

I have put on so much weight due to the meds.

I really dont eat too badly but it has piled on.

I am starting to shift some but its thro watching what I eat and exercise.

It is so hard when you feel rough too. I do understand.

Yes the meds, some meds anyway, can cause weight gain. It is a hard battle to fight but you have to stay motivated and do the best you can.

I gained 60+ lbs being on certain meds. I asked my pdoc to change my meds and he did. To lose the weight I started eating just one small meal a day and went to the gym everyday. It took me about 8 months and i've lost that weight and some.

I know that feeling you have. It makes you feel awful. I wish you the best of luck.

I put on a ton (not literally, but it felt like it) when I started Seroquel. I didn't eat a whole lot, but I didn't have the energy or drive to exercise. The meds are the most important thing. Try to eat healthy and exercise. Keep a check for diabetes, heart issues, high blood pressure, etc. But most of all, take care of the psychological aspect first.

What meds are you on? I take Lamictin and Wellbutrin, and find I've lost weight. There are some meds that actually cause a slight weight loss.
But yes, most psych meds cause weight gain. You just need to try work around them, and where possible get your pdoc to find weight-neutral meds that also help you.
