Why are some Dr's so reluctant to use lamictal when a person is so d
epressed. I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 years and I don't think it
is helping anymore. I keep flipping from anxiety to depression or
both at the same time. I am so tired all the time and people keep
asking whats wrong with me. I don't want all the people I know what
my issues are. I am very frustrated.

From my knowledge, lamictal is more of a mood stabilizer. It doesn't kick in quickly to stop depression. Plus, long-term use is now being noted to cause really bad side effects. I know, because it happened to me. One social worker told me that the pdoc he works with will no longer even prescribe it at all!

yes lamictal is a mood stablizer but it has been used "off label" to treat depression. Many may be reluctant to prescribe it because the chances of developing a rash from it are fairly high as far as incidences of side effects are concerned. Some even develop a life threatening rash called Steven Johnson's syndrome....but that is very rare.

I'm on Lamictin. I was told it would help with the depressive side of bipolar, but I haven't found it very helpful really. Wellbutrin helped me tremdously with the depression.

Yes, it is a mood stabiliser. It takes a good few weeks to titrate up to a therapeutic dose.
