Wellbutrin - Side Effects Subside?

I have been in a depressive episode for the last month. My pdoc added Wellbutrin XL 150 mg to my regular meds. When I took the Wellbutrin in the morning, I began to feel a lot better, but by mid-afternoon I would become very agitated and irritable. As I was just given a sample dosage I figured I wasn't tolerating the medication.

At my follow-up visit yesterday, I reported this to my pdoc. He wants me to keep trying the Wellbutrin, but this time prescribed the ER version, same dosage. (Which was filled at the pharmacy as the generic version - Buderprion SR.) I am to take one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Question - has anyone had the same experience with the irritability side effects of Wellbutrin and, if so, will they subside after a period of time if I stay on the meds? I keep saying I feel like I need a mood elevator and my pdoc feels this is the med.

I have been on Wellbutrin for a couple of months and the only thing I've noticed is an increase in muscle spasms.This I keep under relative control with Klonopin.

Perhaps one of my astute peers on the forum would be able to interject a little more light on the topic.
