I have a new Med Doc and I have asked her to help me find something more that I can add that will help my anxiety and maybe help my depression more.

I have Complex PTSD/DID, Depression, and OCD tendencies. Currently I am taking a high dose of Cymbalta, which is helpful not only for the depression but for my neuropathy and fibromyalgia. Other than that I take Ativan, usually once a day, but sometimes more. I generally just suffer in silence though. I try not to rely on the Benzos because I know they can be addictive and I know it would be easy for myself to get in trouble with them.

My T mentioned trying me on Saphris, but I really don't want to take another atypical antipsychotic. I was on risperdal and had to quit because it was causing me hormonal issues, and then I was on abilify and it did nothing for me but flatten me out.

I really want to try Buspar and was wondering if any of you would share your experiences with it. I really just need something to help with the depressive anxiety.

Any thoughts on Buspar? What's it been like for you?

I take 30 mgs. of Buspar twice a day, along with Pristiq. It has helped lower my anxiety, without the "drugged" feeling. I think it is worth a try.

HI, I have been on Buspar since 98 and let me tell you ..I wouldnt take anything else for my Anxiety...I take 15mg -3 times aday..It doesnt make your head heavy ..or like your high..But if your having an Anxiety attack and you take a pill ..it will calm you down and just level you out.. If i'm just sitting( rarely) and take one it will kinda make me sleepy...Now that helps me at night before bed..I take a pill before i leave the house to start my day...and another one around 5pm to level me out and then one at night around 11pm..My sister found out she has Anxiety and she tried other meds and then she tried Buspar and it helped the best....Good Luck to you and i hope you do try it ..Its a Great med for Anxiety....

I took Buspar a few years ago. It did not help with my anxiety, although it did help with social anxiety (which was not what I wanted help with). I liked it, though, as it had some good side effects! But after a few months, my body adjusted and the good side effects went away. Since it wasn't helping with the anxiety I stopped taking it--was on it for about 5 months total.

But everyone is different. You can always try it and see.

HI

BuSpar is different from other anti-anxiety meds like Ativan in that it effects a certain serotonin (5HT) receptor. It does not work instantly as it must build up in your system like an typical AD. In fact, BuSpar was originally going to be released as an antidepressant.

With this med it's hit or miss. For some people it helps with their anxiety and depression quite well, while for others it doesn't help at all.

Like others have posted, it is worth a try. The side effects are very minimal if any at all. However, you will have to wait 10-14 days to get the full effect. So your doctor may continue you on Ativan in the meantime.

I take 45 mg of Buspar to help with the sexual side effect of the Celexa. It really works and has helped me a lot.

I will be starting Buspar today for anxiety. I hope it helps. I am taking Lamictal for depression and so far so good.

I have xanax to help with the really bad anxiety, but I hate taking it and will mostly just suffer, because the xanax is just too sedating.

Buspar made me twitch. Really bad, it was scary as it started in the middle of the night and woke me up. But I don't think that is a usual side effect. I only took it two days. I hope it works well for you.

The first few days on Buspar were hard for me too. But things got a lot better by about day 4. So hang in there if it's hard at first. There can be a pretty intense adjustment period. Call to check in with your prescriber if you have side effects to see what they recommend (or maybe for some encouragement). Good luck.
