Anyone heard of this drug? I was put on Latuda yesterday by my pdoc who said it is a fairly new drug that is an atypical antipsychotic, that inhibits dopamine reuptake... kinda like an SSRI but for dopamine (I am on SSRIs so it made sense to me that way). He gave it to me for my Tourette's syndrome, cause he says Tourette's has to do with dopamine and since this drug helps your dopamine functioning, then it should work for my Tourette's... He gave it to me yesterday and i took it for the first time last night, and i got extreme nausea for about an hour. I am hoping that will go away, like it is just a side effect that will go away in a few days? Cause i don't think i can tolerate all that much more, it was awful. Then i fell asleep by like 7 or 8pm... so it was extremely drowsy-making to me.

Hi Krisakira,

Abilify also works on dopamine receptors and has the side effect of fatigue. not sure if all atypicals have that same side effect but i do think it's common. i'm on a med right now (Luvox) that is making me extremely exhausted. i slept 16 hours yesterday and am still exhausted. Anyhow, I haven't heard of latuda but i would say give it a week at least for the side effects to wear off to see if it will be of any use to you. If it doesn't you may want to talk to your doc about something like abilify or a different atypical. just a thought.

love and hugs,
Tara

I am taking it and I also felt very nauseous when I first started, but it got better after a short time (I would say 2-3 days). The drowsiness/groggy feeling also went away after a few days. The same side effects came back when I went up on the dose, and then passed again after a couple days. Unfortunately I have also not noticed any "good" effects from taking it, but it has not been that long - just a month or so.

I hope the side effects go away soon for you, nausea is miserable (so is being tired).

take care.

I've never taken Latuda but the best I can offer is what they have on their website:

Good luck,
Andy.
