I was depressed over issues with my husband so I was put on Cytomel with Paxil....I hated it so they tried me on Prozac, then Effexor. I was having dreams of killing people and I didnt know what was real.....I had to ask people if they were really in the room with me! I hated the depression drugs so bad that I went off them....only staying on the Cytomel.... Quickly my head cleared and I was fine! I wasnt crying or showing any signs of depression so my doctor kept me on Cytomel alone for the past 6 years. Now he has retired and no doctor will give me a script for Cytomel. I have talked to mental health doctors and they only want to put me on depression meds. I talked to my family doctor and he said that treatment for depression is not a suggested use for Cytomel so he wont give me any. I have stopped Cytomel before and the crying starts up, plus I let negitive thoughts consume me. Like if I cut someone off in traffic that day accidently, it will replay in my head again and again until I cuss myself over it...It almost becomes like a tick that I have to scream to get out of my head..stupid little things will upset me. I know I will start showing those signs again when my pills finally run out but is it DANGEROUS to my body and organs to stop a thyroid pill cold turkey after being on it 6 years? Im really scared! I have had a thyroid test and my levels are in the normal range, but thats with me being on the Cytomel for 6 years....Im afraid it will crash when I go off. So is it dangerous to just quit the pills?

has any doctor done a blood test for your thyroid issues? if not, i'd be sure and demand one. then you could go from there. i take the same med, but only because the weight gain that i experienced was thought to be affected by my thyroid. the Pdoc changed my AD to wellbutrin and i am losing weight now. get another doctor if you can. you need a blood test to see what the deal is with your thyroid.

Thanx for the reply.

Yep I have been tested for thyroid problems. One T is high but another one is low but the overall is ok......thats what my doctor said.....I never saw the results. But that doctor wont prescribe Cytomel for depression only because he is a family doctor.....He wants me to see a Mental Health doctor. But thats turning out to be difficult too.
