I was given Chlorpromaz for my insomnia since my Seroquel was no longer doing the trick in that department. My pdoc didn't give me much information at all on this medication and for some reason, I can't seem to find any information on it online, either.

Has anyone taken this drug or know anything about it? I've been taking it for about a month now, and it does knock me out, but I'd still feel better taking it knowing what it's for and how it works and the side effects. Anyone?

What's thorazine? All my pdoc told me was they give it to some prisoners in prison to knock them out when they get out of control.

thorazine is an old-line anti-psychotic. I have never heard of it being prescribed for sleep---but I'm not an MD either!

I have to go to a rehab IOP meeting this evening, there's a doctor in the group. I'll try to remember to ask him about it.

Bama, side effects include:blurred vision, nasal congestion, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, urine retention, menstrual irregularities, skin pigmentation changes. (These are the most common)

Do not take these herbs while on thorazine:Kava, St. John's wort,
Yohimbe.

Separate antacid & thorazine doses by at least 2 hours, as the antacid inhibits absorption of oral phenothiazines.

TGC Chlorpromaz... Anyone heard of it? Chlorpromaz... Anyone heard of it?

Thank you soo much, dottie! Hmm, that makes sense. Every since I started taking it, my sinuses have been screwed and I went to my doc cuz no meds were working and he said he thought I was allergic to my cigarette smoke and I needed to quit. Well, I didn't quit but I cut WAY back (from almost 2 packs a day to less than a pack) and my sinuses are still completely out of whack. Not to mention the dry mouth and constipation. Will have to talk to my doc about this.

I have found that when i take my sleep meds (zopiclone) i get a really awful taste in my mouth and extremely dry mouth and throat, also the constipation problem as well. I have find that if i increase my water in take throughout the day and eat more fibre and fruits the constipation isnt half as bad. Although as some one told me before cant sleep, cant give a *****, hehe. ooooooh i'm going to go straight to hell for that.

All the very best of luck! T xx

Clorpromazine -- the full name might help you find info on it. I'd suggest starting at www.medlineplus.com, and if you want more info, going to www.rxlist.com.

And, for what it's worth, a related drug -- how related, I can't say -- acepromazine, is given to horses as a tranq. It's used a lot when you need a slightly sleepy pony, like when cleaning wounds, or clipping.

I found out some info on it. It's name brand is Thorazine and is usually given as an anti-psychotic but can also be given to treat nauseas and vomiting. Didn't really see where it was given in the treatment for insomnia, but she gave it to me for that so I guess it can be used as a sleeping pill. *shrugs*

I didn't like all the side effects it had listed. I've had several of them, just didn't know it was from that medicine. Dry mouth, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc, etc. I'm going to request once again that i be put on Ambien. IF she doesn't put me on it this time around, I'll seek it from my medical doctor who has said he'd prescribe it for me.

Did your pdoc tell you why she wouldn't prescribe Ambien? It certainly seems to me that prescribing a sleeping pill for insomnia makes some sense, but then, I'm not a doctor.

Good luck -- I love my Ambien.

Ask your Doctor if she will put you on Remeron. Just a suggesstion Bama. My Pdoc is very conservative. She refused to put me on ambien. She said..she wouldn't prescribe that...but would perscribe Remeron. Take it right before ya go to bed. You'll be out ....."like the lights" in about 10-15 minutes. My experience with side effects was nil. However everyone's different,as you know.

Just google Remeron...you'll find out all about it. I used the Remeron Sol tabs. Disolves on your tongue quickly. Orange flavour! Chlorpromaz... Anyone heard of it?

My MD took me off of Ambien, put me on Lunesta and when that didn't work out, reluctantly put me on Ambien CR and after 1 month she is wanting me to wean off it... hmmm makes me think there is some kind of warning about the Ambien???? (that they aren't telling the patients?)

I'm wondering the same thing about Ambien. Hmm, I'll talk to her about it again. And yes, she told me she wouldn't put me on Ambien because it's being abused too often nowdays and I'm a recovering addict and she thinks I'd get addicted to it. *rolls eyes*

I tend to build up a tolerance for certain meds and Restoril is one of them. That's what my pdoc prescribes for my insomnia. I told him last month it wasn't working anymore so he had me take 2 25 mg of Seroquel WITH the Restoril. I went to sleep, but more of a "twilight sleep" and the Seroquel gave me nightmares and a metallic taste in my mouth.

So, today I pretty much insisted on trying the new Ambien CR (I had success with Ambien some years ago) so, will see how this goes.

Thanks everyone for the input. It's appreciated!

Going to get my regular doctor to prescribe me Ambien CR since my pdoc refuses to.
