I am currently taking Wellbrutin but my T wants the p-doc to put me on Risperdal. Does anyone take both meds? I don't want to give up the Wellbrutin. I am on a high dosage that seems to help.

What can I expect on Risperdal?

Thanks.

I was on Wellbutrin 450 mg/day and very depressed. When Risperidol was added as a booster, it helped the depression somewhat. However, I developed an incredible craving for ice cream and such and packed on 70 lb in eight months. I had developed pitting edema in my ankles and feet. Many "atypical anti-psychotics" like risperidol (e.g. Seroquel) have this effect. They help the depression but you really need willpower or a great workout routine (unlikely if you are really depressed) to keep the pounds off. I decided I did not want the health risks of obesity and with my doc's concurrence came off risperidol.

Adding atypical antipsychotics to anti-depressants or to lithium is becoming increasingly popular. I don't know how widespread or severe the weight gain issue is. I know that Seroquel carries a label warning for hyperglycemia and diabetes.

Again, risperidol did help to pull me out of a very severe depressive episode. Life is full of trade-offs.

My significant other reports that I was very irritable when I was on Risperidol, so that is something to watch out for too (or to have others watch for you - I was not as aware of this except in retrospect).

i've posted many times about risperdal. i think it is a risky drug. that comes from experience with a patient who took it. she became a zombie, irritable and fell a lot.

Thanks. I am on the same dosage of Wellbutrin.

I suspected weight gain would be an issue.

Your feedback is very timely. Seeing p-doc tomorrow. Thank you.

She fell a lot?!? These side effects seem worse than the problems that I am having.

I am getting so sick of taking ANY meds. Risperdal sounds like one that I don't want to try.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.
