Hi, I'm taking Zoloft, 100 mg/day and my T told me I should contact my doc and discuss with him to get a higher dose... I was doing better, but then when I got back to my daily life routine I felt worse again. Not as bad as before, but still not happy at all. And I'm also numb...and instead of doing what I should I try to escape in different ways that are self-destructive to me and that could also be dangerous and I'm risking my future... with family, kids etc... I feel I'm not in touch with my feelings, and I am afraid if I go up on the meds I'll just be running around even more numb. Only the body working, but not my mind? Any experiences? Please help if you can. Even with other ssri's that are similar.. How are you "suppose" to react to the meds and when do you know when you have reached the right level?

It doesn't sound like the Zoloft is helping much if you ask me. I'd suggest going to another medication if I were you. Even if the dosage was increased, it sounds like the likelihood that your numbness would increase, too. I had the same problems when I was on Zoloft. When I was younger and took Zoloft I was always upbeat and couldn't seem to feel anything but "happiness". After years of being off it I went on it again since it seemed to help before and did nothing for me. Much like you have described.
I'm now on Cymbalta, which seems to be helping my depression. It's a newer type of medication, called SSNRI's. (Selective Seretonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) Good luck.

sounds as if you might try something different. have you taken prozac? it is an older drug but i've know a lot of people who switched from zoloft to prozac with good results.

I just wanted to add a thought...if you have been working on this depression issue for a pretty long time, you may want to consider getting a referral to a pdoc to treat.
Good luck & Merry Christmas!!

Keep asking these questions to your doc!!! Keep listening to your body. Journaling may help you. Keep track of eating, sleeping, and mood changes as you are taking the meds. Share the results of the journal with your psychiatrist. |
