Everytime I look over the posts here I feel like I don't see too many people talk about being on Paxil. I've heard HORRIBLE things about coming off Paxil & that scares me so much. I currently am taking 60 mg of Paxil, which I have been told is the max. I am still having anxiety & even a little depression now & then. I don't know if I should ask my DR about switching meds or not. I'm really scared to try & come off the Paxil. I don't know what to do! Help?

Hi Nikki57, I am on paxil and I still have anxiety and I hate the weight I have gained. I have a Dr.s appt today I am going to see if he will switch me to prozac because I was on that before and it seemed to make me feel better and after reading it seems like it is not as hard to come off of and they even say switching to prozac from paxil is easier than just coming off paxil. I remember coming off prozac and I didn't have a hard time at all. I will have an update after my appt today.

Hi Nikki57, Well I am switching to prozac soooo.....we will see how I do. and with my weight gain Dr. ck'd my chart I have really only gained 3 lbs since August sure feels like more! ha! He said I won't feel as tired on the prozac like I was on the paxil either so that is a plus for me. He also gave me xanax just for one more month for my bad anxiety days. and he also said for me to just switch meds as they are in the same family. I ask about detox from paxil and he said it is not bad as long as you taper off slowly. Hope this helps. And remember everyone's body is different. Let me know what you decide. you can pm me anytime.

I really hope it goes well for you. I might ask to make a switch, unless the Dr says adding something else on would be better. I'm very nervous. Right now I am having what he calls "breakthrough symptoms". I'm having some depression, pretty bad anxiety. I'm scared to ask my Dr to do anything with my medicine though b/c last time all he did was refer me to a therapist, which at the moment I CANNOT afford.
