I am into my 2nd week on Lamictal, taking 25mg daily. I have noticed I am having trouble with my short term memory. It is relatively mild at this point but as I increase my dose will it get worse? It isn't affecting my job yet but if it progresses I can see how it will. I really want to give this drug a chance. Can the memory loss be temporary? I go back to see my pdoc in 2 weeks and I'll bring it up but until then I would love some input to put my mind at ease.

Also if Lamictal didn't work for you what medicine did your doctor prescribe you in place of Lamictal? Thanks

So far, the lamictal hasn't helped me. I am at 200 mg, and have been for months now. My doctor has not changed it at all. His thinking is that if we can get my sleep regulated, the depression may not be as bad.

As for the memory loss, I have some from ECT, so I can't really tell if it is the lamictal or that

I'd also like some experiences on Lamictal and memory loss. My memory is terrible, and I do wonder if it is med related

lamictal did not work for me. Its been so long ago that I don't remember if I had memory loss or not. LOLS. I just know that it did not help my depression or psychotic symptoms.

Apparently my meds have had some effect on my memory. Just yesterday I asked my mom a question twice in a 5-10 minute span and I honestly don't remember the first time!

Hi there,
I've been on 200mg of Lamictal for roughly a year now, and in all honesty...my memory sucks. However, my therapist is trying to convince me that dissociation is involved with my case, so I'm honestly not sure if it's actually the lamictal or dissociation like my therapist keeps telling me. But if I were you, I'd do some research (being your own advocate is HIGHLY encouraged ). But you've only been on it for a couple weeks, right? Granted, you don't want to wait too long, but I'd still give it time to work into your system for another week or so and if your memory doesn't get better, then I'd go back to your pdoc.

i take lamictal (400 mg/day) and have no memory loss. before lamictal, i couldn't remember anything anyway because my mind raced so much. there are a number of mood stabilizers available (depakote, risperdal, tegratol, seroquel, trileptal, etc.) many can cause weight gain and other side effects. keeping a pad of sticky notes nearby might help. before lamictal, i always had to write things down. best wishes.
Thanks for this!

I take 400mg of Lamictal and have been for over two years now, but lower dosages for at least 5 years or so. My memory has been awful. I just noticed how bad it has become over the past several months. It's awful. I recently added Ritalin to the mix to help with depression and give me some energy, so I don't know if it could be from that? I also take Topamax which is known to make you "stupid".

Don't be. The rash is very rare. It is bad when it happens which is why there is such a big deal about making you aware of it. I am currently on 100mg daily and other than the memory loss, which turns out was temporary, I have had absoutely no other side effects. I finally feel good again. My marriage is better, my life is better. Granted I also take 3 other drugs but this is the only new medicine I'm on and has definitely made a difference.

I am really hoping the lactimal helps with my irritability and agitation. My pdoc has me on 300 mg of Seroquel at night. It really helps with my sleep, but hasn't done a thing for my daytime symptoms. I am going to be hopeful...it just sucks that it takes so long to get up to the right dose...I want something to work right now! lol I really need some stability with my moods. I read at CrazyMeds that Lactimal is hands down the best treatment to bipolar ii, so here's hoping.
