I'm on 90mg of Cymbalta Day #17, can anybody tell me how long it takes to work? At least no side effects.

Hi Salus,
Sorry I haven't taken Cymbalta. But it did take 8 weeks for me to see a real change with the antidepressant I am on, a lot longer than I expected. Glad to hear no side effects. Hang in there, hope it helps.

Did you start on the 90 or did you titrate up to it? I started with 60, went to 90, and am now at 120mg. When I was horribly sick last year and couldn't take my meds, I had to start back at 30 for a week then 60, then 90 and finally the 120. I never noticed any major side effects, but know that I definately felt different on the higher dose. Best wishes to you.

My p-doc says it doesn't work that well for his patients.

I've had great success with Cymbalta. I started at 30 for about a week, then went to 60 for a week and a half or so, and then went to 120. I've been on 120 for about 2 months. I think it took a slow, gradual amount of time to feel good consistently - maybe 4 weeks. If you've had some good days on it, I would keep on it for another few weeks to see how things go. I love it - it's the only AD that really seems to work for me, and I've tried many.

I'm very sensitive to medications having to stay on the lowest, or nearly lowest dose possible. That was the way it was with Lexapro. Anyway, Cymbalta started to work for me (30 mg) in about 3 weeks. I hope that you get some relief soon.

For me it's all about finding the right dose. According to a recent study at John Hopkins, Cymbalta is supposed to be the most effective anti-depressant for MDD. I love it, but it only works at 120mg, and it can start to work in a week, like Lexapro.

I'm on 120mg cymbalta. I felt better after 4 hours after taking it. Started at 60mg. Then a month later, 90mg, then 2 months later,120mg. Only in response to extreme stress in my life is why my dose was increased. I've been on 120mg for a year. I was going to cut back, but not with the stuff I'm working through at the moment. I did have a slight red rash on my abdomen for the first week, and a little nausea. Now if I don't take it on time in the morning, I get brain zaps in the afternoon. Good luck!

I've been on Cymbalta for a long time. I was started at 60mg, which did nothing for months. I finally got a new P-Doc, who increased my dosage to 90mg. and added Klonopin, and I felt the effects immediately, like in 24-hours. It was amazing. I've been on this regiment since April and feel terrific.
Thanks for this!

I did not do well on cymbalta - made me manic and paranoid - but I hope it works for you! Just be careful with that med - getting off it is not pleasant.

Cymbalta (90 mg) has been very effective for me, but yes, the withdrawal from it is intense and quite hard. I had a screwup with the pharmacy when my insurer changed and was cut off from it for a month, which was one of the more unpleasant experiences in my life. So... start at a low dose. Diving in head first can lead to a hard time getting off of it.
