I have fibromyalga and my Dr. put me on cymbalta. The pain went away but the medicine caused me to become more manic than I've ever been. I had a horrible time weaning off the cymbalta while trying to deal with the mania. I just wanted to get this info out there to perhaps save someone else from experiencing the same thing.

I was on cymbalta before we realized I had bipolar - you are right, it was somewhat mania-inducing for me, though I have BPII, so it still never went beyond hypomania for me. I'm curious, were you also on a mood stabilizer when you were on it? I was not when I was on it.

Hi Hanners,

I was not on a mood stabilizer when I was on the cymbalta. I honestly don't know if it would have helped or not. My other meds weren't working too well at the time, and I'm sure that didn't help either.

Nice to meet you,

Jan

Cymbalta made me manic too. I was barely sleeping and flying high. I thought it was how a depression med was supposed to work. My blood pressure and heart rate were way to high and I started having bouts of blurry vision. I had a really bad one while driving and I had to pull over. It scared me bad enough to stop the drug. My primary didn't get that I was manic so he just put me on lexapro. I completed bottomed out and when into a horrible depressive episode but eventually I came out of it. They didn't diagnose me with bipolar until I had a mixed episode after drinking alcohol. I went off the wall. That scared me enough to find better treatment and they said having a reaction to a med like that is a symptom of being bipolar. I am no one Lamictal and Lexapro. The Lamictal has worked wonders. My mood is much better. I also find that I can't cry as easily as I used to.
Thanks for this!
