Uh... maybe I'm misunderstanding? Is your doctor putting you on BOTH Effexor and Cymbalta? I wouldn't think that's a good idea...

They're both SNRIs, so you'd be doubling up on drugs with the same mechanism.

For what it's worth, Cymbalta did help with pain for me for several months, but that side of it seems to be fading.

yup--75mg effexor XR, 60 mg cymbalta 2xday. all together that isn't that much--is it??? i get tired of taking them. i sometimes feel kinda zoned--especially for the first hour or so after take the cymbalta and effexor in the am. I tried just cymbalta in the a.m. but it did the same thing. have to take 2x/day.
i see him again this month to see what he wants to do. i think, except for the pain thing, i did just as well on lexapro and effexor together. one doesn't seem to do it.

Cynbalta is the newer SSNRI, and works on both serotonin and norepinephrine which is why is works on the pain. That's why I tried it, for peripheral neuropathic pain. I was so allergic to it, I couldn't even get through the initial side effects...

I was on cymbalta for a short period of time. It worked a little as far as my aches and pains in my hands and feet from my diabetes, but that's about it. Didn't even put a dent in my depression. So my pdoc took me off of it. I hope it does better for you. anyone on cymbalta???

I started taking Cymbalta the middle of Oct 2004. The first two months was miraculous. Now I'm so depressed I'm thinking about suicide all the time. I haven't left the house in a week and I have no groceries in the house. I didn't know it helped pain. When the doctor increased the medication to 1 one day and two the next day to see if it would make me fee as good as the initial dose, it didn't help. I'm going to ask my new doctor (starting Aug 1) to add Wellbutrin to it since that's the only antidepressant that won't cause weight gain. Susan AKA Brittlstar43

I was put on Cymbalta in the hospital in March along with Lamictal. I think it worked really well for me. Up until a couple weeks ago when I stopped taking all my meds cause hubby and I weretn getting along so I thought whats the use in taking them. I came back to my senses a couple days ago and have started them all back up. Pdoc put me on a new med also yesterday instead of the lamictal causing some weight gain. He put me on Topomax. See how that one deos now.

Kind of sad to hear these replies because I just saw a pdoc today for the first time in 5 years. And she put me on Cymbalta.
Now, I am questioning if I should even start taking it?

Last week i went for a medical checkup to see if there was anything i could do to cut down on pain meds that i'm taking for severe pain and the dr put me on Cymbalta. i've not started it yet because i began having a very bad migraine on Tuesday that lasted until this morning. i plan to start it tomorrow to see if it works for pain.
Question- Does it bother insiders? In the past i haven't been able to take AD because all of my parts react differently and it is too destabilizing- i go from anxiety and nervousness/sleeplessness to sedation and back all throughout the day.
White Iris, does it bother your parts?

take care,
kerria

The withdrawl can sometimes be a bit funky (but not nearly as bad as effexor), and make SURE to take it with food, or else you might feel nauseous (sp?). I'm not feeling any negative side effects, and it hasn't helped or lowered my mood.

i am paying attention to this thread as my doc wants me to try this. More for pain than depression. Most times I can handle my depression, most times. Its the pain that is bad and its just a vicious cycle. I am worried also about the cost so I am curious as to how a few people react then I will decide if I even want to try it.. Thanks Linda

Been on it 5 days now. Feel high, hyper. I feel like I have more energy but in a destructive, manifested way.
Anyone else get these feelings after starting it?
I guess I will play it out a little longer and see if it stabilizes me.

I took Cymbalta 60 mg for 6 months, did ok on it for the depression, then I saw a new pdoc and she upped it to 90 mg, then the s*&t hit the fan. I felt like I was crawling out of my skin, had so much energy that it was almost destructive. Had to take me off it and now am on Lexapro. Back to the depression once again.....

I WISH I had the energy problems! It's got me so wiped out all the time I can hardly move. And, when we tried lowering the dose, I got depressed again...

Right now, I feel as though I'm in limbo, waiting to see what happens around me before I try to get back to living my life. Not a lot of fun...

But, on the other hand, the Cymbalta really is working for me. WIth Wellbutrin, but it seems i need both for it to work.

Good luck to all...

You are taking Wellbutrin and Cymbalta together? If so, how long have you been doing this and what are the results regarding, depression, energy and weight gain?

I started Cymbalta in mid October, it was great for 2 or 3 months as far as giving me energy. Too bad it wore off. So, i'm back to depression and back to having the energy of a terminally ill slug.

Personally I enjoyed the hyperness I had on Cymbalta, but it fizzled out after 2 months. It got me through the worst part of the separation from hubby after 29 years. Cymbalta is not working anymore as far as I'm concerned. I started taking it mid Oct. 5 days out of 7 I wish I was dead. But, everyone reacts differently to meds.

Sorry for the delay in answering, but I don't get here all that often, so only saw this now.

I've been taking both Cymbalta and Wellbutrin since about October of last year, I think? Around then, anyway. It's fairly effective for depression, but energy has been a problem. I was taking it in the morning, because taking it at night was causing sleep problems, but now I'm trying taking it in the late afternoon, which seems to be helping a bit.

I can't tell you about weight gain, because I'm supposed to be gaining weight. It's certainly happening, but again -- that's what's supposed to be happening. I hope it's not the meds, but can't say for sure about it.

Hope that helps.

Hello. I take Cymbalta every morning. Seems to help more with my pain. I have Fibromyalgia, depression, AADD, and chronic migraines. I don't believe that you should be taking the Effexor along with the Cymbalta. That would be double-dosing. Phew. I would be flying on both! In any case, check with your Doc. about it, please.

just was at dr tues. cut back the cymbalta and keep the effexor. we''ll see. i was bruising quite badly. just a bump and up came a big bruise. i really hate the "playing with the meds" game.
