Trazodone is a terrible drug for insomnia, it's really a very old anti-depressant with the side-effect of extreme drowsiness.

There are many appropriate sedative-hypnotics that are better suited, however they are all controlled substances, so doctors prescribe it to avoid being tracked by the DEA.

Trazadone worked miracles on me. I never had the morning grogginess a lot of people talked about here. my only issue with it was after four hours--boom! I'd wake up for an hour or two. my nurse switched me to Mirtazapine now and I'm experiencing the same four hour wake-up. I'm only up for half an hour so I'm sticking with it for now. good luck! let us know how it works out for you!

I haven't taken it in over a month because of the nightmares the first night I took it. I just took a 50 mg because I'm tired of such a crazy sleep schedule and would like to be asleep by a reasonable hour this evening. I hope it doesn't give me crazy dreams!

I just started taking 25mg of Trazodone for sleep. It works wonders for me, and I don't feel hungover when I wake up in the morning.

Welcome to the first day of your life

Just open up your eyes as I lay you down tonight
Safe on the other side
No more tears to cry

OMG Trazodone just brought up the most horrible memories from me.....this PDoc I saw one time a year ago, prescribed that to me after only talking to me for about 15 min....wrote me a script for 100mgs to take at night, 1 mg of Abilify, and 20 mg of Celexa.....well needless to say, I thought I was going to die. In between the coma fog like sleep the Trazodone induced, my mouth felt like it was stuffed with cotton. Then the fun part came when I tried to get up in the morning and the room was spinning and I had a migraine headache the hurt like the devil and couldnt even turn on my bedroom light without crying out in pain....it took me almost 2 days to recover from it and for it to leave my system....never again....I know it affects other people different and I hate to be one of those Debbie Downer people and make it sound bad for everyone else getting ready to try it out lol.....it just wasnt for me, but other people seem to tolerate it pretty well....Best of luck to you!

Yes, I take it to help me sleep. It doesn't work completely, though, just in itself. I have to also do things to sind me down beforehand, too.
