Tuesday my pdoc upped my Topomax to 100mg twice a day. I am also on Vicodin for my back pain. Since the uppage of the Topomax I have had a funny feeling with my heart beats. The only way I can describe it is that it feels like when you have a gurgle in your throat and its continuous. Just feels very weird. I am planning on seeing my gp on Monday about this . Just dont know if maybe I should stop the Vicodin before that though. Any of you have any advice? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Bethy

call the doctor let him know what is going .Topamax alone shouldn't do that or it might be a side affect of the other med.Just to be safe check with the doctor or call the phymary to see if one meds is counter acting with other .Good luck

((((Beth))))- I also take 200 mg. of topamax and although i know that everyone reacts differently to meds, i haven't had the particular problem that you mention. I do break up my dosage and take 100mg. in the morning and 100 mg later in the evening. I also take vicodin for my back problems. I would certainly talk to your doctor about the symptoms you are having.

Thanks Rose and Karen~

I called the Call a Nurse program at the local hospital here and they said that if I have pain or shortness of breath I should get in to the emergency room . There are no bad interactions with the drugs .. we went thru them all. And all should be ok unless its something within my system. I am planning on seeing my GP tomorrow about this and go from there. I am not feeling any better today. The only time it stops is when I am sleeping in bed. I woke up this morning and nothing was going on till I started moving around. I did weigh myself today from when I was weighed at the pdoc on Tuesday and I have lost 20 lbs. Thats what the Topomax does to me. I am wondering if this drastic loss of weight has anything to do with it too?? Guess I will find out more tomorrow.

Thanks again
Hugz~

Well my GP didnt seem to think the problems were from my meds. He didnt hear a murmur. So he ordered an EKG and a Heart halter Monitor for 24 hrs here. I have to keep a diary of what I am doing to coralate with what my heart is telling them at the time too. We'll see if this tells them what is going on if anything. And go from there. Keep me in your thoughts . Thanks

Bethy,

I had an EKG and had to wear that Halt Monitor for what seemed like forever (probably 24 or 48 hours). I was participating in synchronized swimming at the time and I had the unusual occurrence of becoming extremely out of breath at the beginning of my routine, then getting more breath as I went on. That prompted the testing.

It turned out to be slight mitral valve prolapse - the mitral valve in the heart that doesn't open and shut properly. Sometimes it's called a heart murmur. Apparently a large number of women have it and don't even know. (I probably wouldn't have if I hadn't been engaged in sports.)

The main thing it means is that I have to pre-medicate with an antibiotic before I have any dental work done. I was diagnosed with this almost 20 years ago and I don't even know I have it.

Not saying that will be your situation, but wanted to assure you that mitral valve is very common so wanted to help ease your mind a bit.
