I was on 150 mg zoloft for 4 weeks which helped the anxiety/panic, but not the depression so 2 days ago after a major meltdown (crying spell) over the weekend (my menstrual cycle had also started), my psych told me to increase it to 200 mg, now this is the 3rd day of the 200 and this morning I woke up feeling jittery & nervous so I had to take an Ativan to calm down. Is this just another side effect that will eventually subside or is this dose too strong for me? How long will it take for the meds to start working on the depression? Or should I have a separate med added for the depression? I'm at a lost of what to do.

I can only give you my opinions, but I hope they are of some comfort, too.
You haven't been on Zoloft long enough for you to know if it will provide a solid antidepressant response, or not. Especially because your dose is still being titrated upwards, your experiences are going to be primarily side effects. Your body will adapt to the medication over time. It isn't a good idea to add in another medication yet, because you'll lose the ability to determine which drug is responsible for which effect. I know it can be frustrating to wait it out, but it takes time to get a clear answer about what a drug can do for you. It may well be a few more weeks before the antidepressant effect kicks in. Or it may not kick in. You have to continue with the treatment plan to understand everything you can about your response to the drug. If you have another bad day tomorrow, it would be a good idea to contact your doctor's office, and seek advice there. I hope you find a little comfort as you wait for your body to adapt to the drug. And, best of luck on the outcome of the treatment. Lar |
