Anybody ever taken this drug? I've been on it for about 8 weeks now and was curious if anyone else had ever taken it. I tried to do research on it but it appears very few have been on it. Any input appreciated.

Loxapine is a tranquilizer antipsychotic, that is similar to phenothiazine antipsychotics, such as haloperidol and chlorpromazine. It is indicated for schizophrenia, but can be used for other similar conditions and problem behaviours, such as aggression.

The side effects are mainly sedation (lessens gradually), dry mouth, constipation, urine retention, rash, tremor, akathisia (restlessness), tardive dyskinesia (rhythmical involuntary movement of the tongue, face, mouth or jaw and sometimes the extremities). There are many other side effects, than what I have listed here.

This page is written for consumers.

This drug is an older anti-psychotic, that is not widely prescribed. Newer antipsychotic drugs, such as olanzepine (Zyprexa) are preferred because they have fewer neurological side effects.

I took this drug, for 18 months, in the mid 1990s, for "apparent" psychotic symptoms. It didn't help. My problem was and is sensory processing, a condition that can resemble psychosis. (I could not explain my symptoms very well, at the time.)
Thanks for this!
