This might get long, but I don't know how else to explain.

My husband picked up my daughter's prescription for Concerta fromn the pharmacy, but didn't have our insurance card with, so paid full price and was told to come back for refund with insurance card.

He went back, pharmacy needed prior authorization, so they'd call husband when time for refund.

Pharmacy had supposedly filled the prescription with methylphenidate (near as I can figure, it is a generic for concerta), so insurance wouldn't pay (they ONLY cover concerta).

Pharmacy said they'd replace pills with the actual concerta, so hubby took them back. Pharmacy did NOT replace them, but DID refund the ENTIRE price.

Hubby brought pills home, I looked them up. They ARE concerta, NOT a generic, but the label says they are Methylphenidate (the generic).

This seems really weird to me. Is there someone I should talk to about this? I would think it could be a serious issue if a bottle says it's one thing, but contains another (even if just generic)....

I don't think I would be using that pharmacy again. At least you got the correct medication and a refund. As far as I know based on my experience namebrands come in sealed bottles like otc stuff...

Do be careful if the pharmacy also dispenses methadone because they keep it next to methylphenidate, and children have died from the pharmacist accidentally filling the prescription with methadone.

WOW! Talk about negligence! I would make sure everyone I knew learns about what happened if it was me, and I would take my business elsewhere. (And maybe write a negative review online about the business as well...at one of those business review websites)

This sounds wacky but its true. The generic of Concerta is the exact same as the brand, the only authorized generic is made by the company that markets Concerta. The pills are identical. Only the stock bottle labels are different.
