Hypomania had me only sleeping 3 hrs. per night last week so my doc prescribed trazodone for sleep. I also had cymbalta reduced from 60 mg to 30 mg because I recently had wellbutrin added. I have gone from 3 hrs. per day to 10+ hrs., including naps. Has anyone else had this reaction? Or am I cycling the other direction? I haven't had a depression episode since adding wellbutrin, so I am really hoping that this is a reaction to the meds.

I take trazadone 50mg. for the last two years. It helps me sleep, and doesn't bother me in the morning. I do drink a big coffee however. Maybe your body needs to get used to the drug. It also depends of course on how much the pdoc prescribed for you. You certainly need to bring this up with him/her when you see them...or if you are really concerned, place a call!!

I took it for quite a while. It definitely made me sleep long and deeper and dream crazy dreams.

I just started it yesterday and had the most vivid nightmare that I ran my husband over, it got me to sleep but I woke up at 3 am soaked in sweat to the point I had to change my shirt. I only took a 25 mg. Not sure if I'm comfortable with taking it tonight.

I'm allergic to trazadone.
But when I was a child, and not gained an allergy to it yet, it would leave me with massive hang overs, even at four times the lowest dose (lowest dose was split into four pieces).
Along with leaving me with a 24 hour mental fog from when i took my last dose of it, and causing sleep apnea.
But the 3 hours thing, sounds a lot like me last night.. and much in the past... but mine is related to something diffrent.. narcolepsy, with insomnia, plus parents who wont quit waking me up all the time.

I used to take trazodone, and ambien cr at the same time. I was up to 400mg of trazodone and 12.5 of ambien cr. Didn't help a bit

I have taken trazedone before, I liked it fine.

I used to take Cymbalta, WORST withdrawal symptoms ever when I stopped taking it. I had head buzzes, pain, couldn't get out of bed for about 3 weeks. You may want to ask your doc if you could be so drowsy from reducing the cymbalta and if there's anything to help it, how long will it last if it's that, etc.

Good luck!

Wow, I can't imagine going cold turkey off of cymbalta-just the reduction is causing brain zaps for me. I have been taking it for 6 years, and I am so ready to get off of it.

I take Trazodone for sleep. I do have vivid dreams. I can't say I sleep any longer than usual. But I also take Nuvigil in the morning, since my other meds such as Tegretol make me drowsy. Perhaps it could be the Trazodone, too, though....

I agree that this issue is worth asking your doc about!

I took trazodone before and it knocked me completely out for about 10 hours, as well. I had the most difficult time coming out of the sleep, so I had to change medication. I prefer ambien cr. Also, wellbutrin gave me pretty severe insomnia. I definitely had to take a sleep med while on it. Pretty much all sleep meds give me lucid dreams, which are quite enjoyable . However, I don't feel that well-rested!

I used to take Trazodone & I loved it. I sleep like you did before started taking it, but I never slept that long from Trazodone...although I still took naps every chance I got.

Like someone stated before, maybe you're body needs to adjust to the new meds. Give it time & then if the problem persists, contact your dr. Take Care <3

I have taken Trazodone 50mg for years and when I say years, I mean like 15 or 16. I have no problem going to sleep, but usually I only sleep about 3-5 hours at a time, at night. Granted, I am able to work Monday - Friday so I have learned how to deal with the sleepiness during the day, well kinda, there are times at work I just sit there staring off into space because I am so tired. On days that I don't work, my schedule usually works like this...go to bed at 10 or 11pm, wake up at 2-3am, stay up until some where between 6 and 10am, go back to bed, sleep for 3-4 hours, lather rinse repeat. Also, I too have crazy vivid dreams, the kind of dreams that you have a hard time shaking off once you wake up. Up until now, I thought all of this was just me, I am seeing now that it isn't. Thanks for the post!

I've just been put on Trazodone and tonight is my first night on it.

I've been on Ambien for the past 6 years but it's starting to lose it's effectiveness, so my pdoc wants to see how I do on trazodone. Took it an hour ago and so far I'm still awake...

Hi Evis,

Since starting this thread, I am now off of the trazodone. It didn't work for me. Now I am on klonopin. I'm just starting this one, so I am not sure of the effectiveness yet.

Ditto for me. I have sleep apnea and am on the cpap every night but I still only sleep in 3-4 hour cycles. Doxepin helped for a while but then I had to drop it due to other meds. Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata - none of these work for me. I've had 3 sleep studies, the last one I only slept 45 minutes and I got scolded. Hello??? Maybe the lack of sleep is why I'm doing the sleep study in the first place! Very frustrating but I've learned to just take naps when I can.

The trazadone took over an hour to kick in and then left me with a severe sleep hangover the next day. Was very groggy and dizzy and spent the whole of the next day in bed. I've gone back to my ambien until I see my doc next week.

I had to adjust Trazadone. In the beginning a 50 mg pill left me feeling hung over and tired so I cut it in half. Last year I went back up to 50 mg. Sleep great and feel fine.

I have been taking Trazodone for several years, and I love it. Without it, I was only getting 2-3 hours of sleep a night dur to staying up late from anxiety and waking early. I slowly titrated up to 300mg--every time I stepped up a dose, it took about 2 weeks for my body to adjust. At 300mg I was a little groggy in the morning, but a cup of coffee and an extra fifteen minutes in my morning routine took care of that. I take a smaller dose now; it's been a miracle drug for me.

I have been on 50mg of Trazodone since May and I absolutely love it! It took me about a month to finally adjust to it and I can't go more than 2 nights without it or else I get really sick but after years of not being able to sleep I have finally been sleeping all night and I don't have any effects of it in the morning as long as I get at least 6 hours of sleep. The one side effect that I have had is that I do get really bad nightmares although even those have decreased at least.

DamagedAngel, what kind of sick do you get when you go off the Trazodone? I ask because I have found that if I miss it for more than a day or two, my body reacts strongly to not getting sufficient sleep and I catch colds almost immediately.
