Would it be damaging to my health to quit c/t? I was taking 15mg, but they dropped me back down to 10mg. I really can't handle the way this med makes me feel and I want off of it as quick as possible. Are the withdrawals terrible? Please someone let me know.

EDIT: I know I should taper off slowly. If I do a week of 10, then cut in half to 5 and quit would I be fine???

Obviously I'm not saying that you should quit your meds cold turkey, as that would be irresponsible of me. However, that said, I understand as I have quit 10mg Abilify/aripiprazole in the past cold turkey and was fine. I can't remember what the side effects were but they were nothing major. I think I just felt ill for a week or two. Obviously it might be different/worse for you though as everyone is different. Oh, and obviously the psychotic symptoms got worse again.

I think it would be a better idea, if you're certain that you want to stop them, to call your pdoc and tell them you're coming off with or without their support and ask what's the safest way to do it. I imagine that 10mg -> 5mg -> 0 would be safer than just stopping 10mg, but maybe your pdoc has a safer way.

Good luck!

Abilify has a horrifying half-life. I don't understand why they make drugs like this. It's like haldol decanoate in the 'theory' part of 'big' pharma's eyes.

I went off it c/t when I felt like ripping my own skin off. I had no physical or psychological problems, but then again, every day I made it was a godsend.

But -always- call your doc and at least leave a msg. That's part of our responsibility as patients.

yea, call the doc. This is definitely one of those "everyone is different" things. I came off Abilify fine with a short taper. Haldol was a little harder, but compared to antidepressants or benzos it's really a cake walk.

This med made me feel worse than I did before I started taking any kind of rx. My pdoc has a habit of not calling back for a while. I see him in a month and he's somewhat rude. Despite my not hallucinating (including auditory), he says everything is fine, when it really isn't. This, for me, is a horrible med. I get sick every week now and my body can't fight it off, I feel like a walking zombie, etc. I'll try to give him a call, but I really just want to quit with all meds. I'll do a taper and hang in there. I'll keep everyone updated.

Is reinstatement still possible? I haven't taken my meds since Saturday, but I've been vomiting. How long do the withdrawal symptoms last?

seriously, you need to reinstate and titrate off. You can't just stop taking this stuff. Get in touch with your pdoc and ask him for a titration schedule.

What do I need to do? Start taking 10mg again? I am feeling terrible. I quit because I think I was developing TD - my teeth are chattering/clenching at night.

I would go back to the 10 until you get stable again. And then I would talk to your doc about titrating. I don't think you should cut more then a quarter off the dosage at a time. And I wouldn't cut the dosage more often then once a week. Go slow.

I know it's hard, I came off Lamictal, Haldol, Ativan, Ambein, and Trazadone. I don't blame you a bit for wanting to stop, just please go slow, it will be much easier.

I see my pdoc again in August, but I probably need to call before then. I'll start taking the 10mg and go from there. Thanks for helping me - I am in a rough spot.

I didn't think it was going to be this bad. I'll take it easy and slow. I've learned the difficult way.

(((borntorun))) How do you think I know to go slow? I did the same thing. At least call pdoc and tell him what you're doing.

Hi. I'd been on abilify for a year now. I started on 60mg. And until recently I was down to 10mg. I then went cold turkey from 10mg, without my doctor's consent or knowledge. I haven't felt any side effects from doing this.. yet. Infact, reading all these posts about depression and hair loss, I'm really fretting

I've quit cold turkey from 10mg and felt fine. Everyone is different so I wouldn't worry unnecessarily. When did you quit? It takes about 2 weeks for all the abilify to leave your system.

All the best,
