I was hoping to get some opinions from anyone that has taken Lexapro and there experience's. I know everyone is not the same when it comes to how a drug reacts with them. I took Celexa for many years and stopped 2 years ago (dumb) and when i tried to start again my body could not take them (made me sick). I thought that was strange but since then i have read that stopping a med after taking it for a long period that when you try to restart your body can reject it. Anyway i know lexapro is Celexa (improved ?) so i was thinking of asking my dr if i could try it and would like to hear so opinions of it. Thanks.

I've taken both Celexa/citalopram and Lexapro/escitalopram and found them to be the same, as in same side effects and didn't help my depression at all.

I keep getting mixed feedback about whether they are the same or not. Some research states that escitalopram is more effective, but others say they are basically the same thing (that escitalopram is basically the active component of citalopram which is why the dose is smaller) so I'm not really sure.

Hope that helps, and good luck with the med search.

I went off Prozac (stop working) to Effexor , but Effexor made me sweat really bad. Then onto Lexapro... 2 weeks later I was lucky i hadnt offed myself, SI was a hug side exffect for me....so back to Prozac only more and I'm headed in the right direction again. Just be careful if you notice SI thoughts.

I take Lexapro and I really like it. I have had no side effects from the beginning, and it works really well. Before Lexapro, one of the ADs I tried was Celexa, and that was awful for me. It made me sleep all the time, lose my appetite, and become extremely irritable.

i took lexapro for 2 years. thought it was great. sweaty and nauseous for the first two weeks but after that i saw a huge improvement.

my asshole gp made me go onto celexa because it's cheaper (for nhs) after those 2 years but didn't tell me the reason why. my T told me that was probably why. i am going to complain and go back on lexapro. i think celexa is just toxic. it makes me so sleepy.

I was on lexapro for 8 mths I think. Never on celexa. After about 4 hours of taking it, I would have this huge high that lasted about two hours and then it would drop me lower than I was before. I thought at least I was happy some of the time instead of constantly depressed, but finally opened up to my doctor and he explained that that wasn't how it was supposed to work (this was the first med they ever tried me on) and we experimented with meds till we found the right one for me.

Hi Jlmass,

I took Lexapro (10mg daily) for about 12 months. It was effective, and I really felt like myself again. The only drawback was that I gained 60 pounds. I was eating very poorly, though, so it might have been more of my diet than the meds. I went off of it with no problem, but probably discontinued too soon. My depression remitted for about 6 months. Life factors brought depression back on full-force.

I started a second round of Lexapro in late March of this year. Well, this time around I experienced persistent anxiety. So, I discontinued it...

So, my assessment on this medication is mixed. The first time it worked; the second time around it was terrible...

Now, I'm on Cymbalta...the jury's still out on this one as it's only been 10 days.

I was on Lex for 3 months. Only 3 months because it was okay for depression but was a sugar pill for anxiety. 60% reduction in depression and 0% reduction in anxiety is what I would say with my experience. BUT I will say side effect wise it was very mild.

Lexapro did nothing for me, but everyone is different. Went from Lexapro to Cymbalta and that did work, but my family told me my behavior was a little off. I loved Paxil, but I hated the weight gain from it. Trying Pristiq now, so far so good.
