I take both levoxyl (recently had thyroid removed) and depression meds......lots of depression meds !
Anyway, I am embarrassed at taking the medications I take for my depression (anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, etc.), so I am having trouble speaking with my endocrinologist about my energy level...or lack there of, on my present dose of levoxyl. I also am having increased trouble with my mood.....ugh.........I HATE my depression!!! Is anyone else on a thyroid med along with the meds for their MI? Do you take a T3 med along with your standard T4 med? Does your Pdoc ever deal with both your thyroid and psych meds? Thank you for your input! |

In fact, when my T. first suspected I had a depressive disorder, instead of immediately recommending a pdoc he called my endocrinologist and asked if he would prescribe the minimum dosage of Prozac, which my endo did, no problem. (I ended up going to a pdoc later anyway.) I take a large dose of synthroid (hypothyroidism runs in our family) but only one kind. Are the two different thyroid meds due to having your thyroid removed? I'm not sure by your post if your endo is aware of the pscyh meds you're on? If not, he needs to know immediately so your thyroid meds can be properly adjusted/prescribed since the thyroid gland affects sooo many things. (And vice versa with your pdoc.) I didn't have insurance that covered my endocrinologist for awhile, so my pdoc has been prescribing my synthroid. He said thyroid conditions and depression often go hand-in-hand. In fact, some people who have been diagnosed with depression really only have a thyroid imbalance. So endos and pdocs are used to the link between thyroid and depression. As far as the embarrassment - have you been taking psych meds long? They are so much a part of my life now that I am no more embarrassed to take them than my synthroid. I HATE being on so many meds but it's for another physical disorder I live with. Hope this helps a bit... Warmly, __________________ |

I am on both thyroid and other meds. My pdoc prescribes all of them for me including the thyroid med. I am sorry that you are having trouble speaking of your depression. I am sure your endocrinologist would understand and could probably help treat you better if she had all the facts. Good luck
