Has anyone had any experience with this medication? I understand it is available now in a once a day pill. I'm curious because my fiance takes wellbutrin - twice a day dosage - but he keeps forgetting to take it twice a day. I want him to feel better, and I try every day to remember to ask him if he took it, but sometimes I forget too. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Survivor - I haven't had any clinical experience with the new once-daily version of Wellbutrin™ (bupropion) as it is not available in Canada, yet. I do understand the problem of remembering to take the afternoon dose of Wellbutrin as I often forget my afternoon dose and end up taking much later than I would like. For example, I just took my second dose about 5 minutes ago (it is 8:07 pm here) ..... sigh! Wellbutrin once a day? . Hey, work gets busy and it's not always on my mind.

I assume that the new Wellbutrin is a new sustained-release formulation of the current sustained-release formulation (ie. Wellbutrin SR™). The original Wellbutrin had to be taken three times daily and is good for some clinical situations, but as you know, remembering the afternoon dose can be frustrating.

Myself, I would gladly switch to a once daily version, and I probably will once it becomes available in Canada. The total daily cost of the drug will probably increase, but I think it would be worth it just to get rid of the hassle of the afternoon dose. Also, some drug plans may not pay for this new formulation, at least at first. This is something to look into before having the doc prescribe it.

I would encourage you to have your fiance talk to his doc about trying the new version of Wellbutrin. Have your significant other ask the doc if the drug company is distributing any samples (free meds are good) so that he can try it before having to pay for it.

Your fiance should be able to just switch right over to the new formulation from the current twice daily version. Tell him to finish up whatever he has left from his current prescription, as wasting medications is the same as throwing away money. Just say to him, "Finish your prescription! There are depressed people in the third-world who can't afford medication, even one they would have to take twice daily!" Wellbutrin once a day? You know, say it in the same tone that your mother used to make you finish your brussel sprouts ..... bleech! Wellbutrin once a day?

Let us know if the new formulation works as well for him as the current twice daily version. Real world experiences are much more informative than any clinical study could ever be.

Go for it! - Cam
