I'm prescribed stimulants as an adjunct to my antidepressants to help give me motivation/energy. I've tried many different ones (e.g. adderall, ritalin, concerta, focalin, vyvanse, provigil),but they all make me nauseous. I realize that everyone responds differently to meds, but I was wondering if anyone had any luck with stimulants that didn't cause nausea.
Thanks! |

Food like grapefruit juice can skew enzymes in your stomach and alter the effects of meds. Also, the ph balance in the stomach effects it as well.

I've only been taking Wellbutrin for a few weeks now but I find it gives me more energy/motivation. And it makes me really sensitive to caffeine, so just a little bit of coffee gives me a buzz.

Wellbutrin is a good anti-depressant with stimulating qualities, due to it's reuptake inhibition of norepinephrine.

If they generally cause nausa you probably have an intolerance. I would ask your pdoc if there is any testing you can do to verify the intolerance.

Have you been to your regular doc to see if you have any thyroid or vitamin (B's especially but D also) deficiencies or problems? My energy has been helped enormously by getting blood tests every so often and keeping up with my nutritional and additional vitamin/mineral needs.

Honestly id try caffeine, not in pill form. It has a relatively short half life so it leaves your body quicker. It can cause nausea but your body builds a quick tolerance to this. Also dependency from caffeine isn't a huge deal as withdrawal effects wont last long (maybe 2 weeks max). You can build a tolerance to the jittery effect somewhat quickly, but you generally wont build a huge tolerance to the increase in focus. Keep it to 250mgs a day max, that's like 2-3 cups of coffee depending on the strength. It seems primitive but I have found that it works.
