Hi all,

I was wondering what people's thoughts were about the side effects of Concerta (extended release methylphenidate, or Ritalin) versus those of Adderall (methamphetamine salts).

I started taking Adderall for ADD last November, discontinued it in March, and started taking Concerta @ 18mg/day in November of this past year. My psychiatrist recently increased the dosage to 36mg/day as the 18mg ones had very little effect on me whatsoever - the change has been very positive.

The side effects of Adderall that I had were primarily insomnia, appetite suppression and irritability (especially as it wore off), which were annoying but not too bad. I've noticed on Concerta that my skin gets very dry, especially my lips (which HURTS!), irritability, mild insomnia, nausea and the shakes. The nausea and the shakes are the worst ones to deal with in my opinion.

The difference that the drug makes is fantastic and I don't consider the side effects to be bad enough to stop taking it.

Has anyone else taken either of these drugs, and if so, how did you deal with the side effects? I'm especially interested in any suggestions or tips to reduce the nausea/shakes that come with Concerta.

Thanks so much!

Anna

I don't like any of those. There is a new one Stratera. Itdoesn't ware off, and it is non-stimulant.

With love to all.
