i'm hypomanic (no depression) and have been on 450mg. for 35 yrs. works for me but take 1/2 klonopin daily for anxiety. make sure your thyroid and parathyroids are checked regularly as lithium doesn't like them.

Thanks for the heads up. How long did it take to see results?

i can hardly remember yesterday, so i cannot help you in telling you when the lithium kicked in once i started..do some online research but i'd guess a few weeks and then you will prob. see some changes, very subtly, in mood and behavior. ask your dr. but i'd guess we all have different reactions to the same med. and just look at it from your individual perspective. do your research on lithium and good luck.

Thanks for the tip Christina. I drink gallons of water a day so thats pretty easy for me. What is considered therapeutic level? 900mg?

Your welcome . Good for you for already drinks tons!
I am currently on 900mg daily...yet my blood levels show I'm on the way low end of " therapeutic level " Personally I would rather be at the low end than worry about a Lithium Toxicity. Just my opinion.

I began Lithium on last Monday at 300mg the first 3 days and now 600mg a day. So far so good. i do feel a little disconnected , off balance. I prefer this over all of the other Rx's I've tried over the years. Seroquel, Depakote, Wellbutrin, Remeron to name a few. I'll see how it goes.

I've been on Lithium for 3 weeks, 300 mg and haven't been drinking much. Is that a problem? I have another appt. in 2 weeks. My mood has slightly improved and steadied since adding Li to Cymbalta.

Your Doctor didnt advise you to increase fluids? Ugh, hate when doctors skip that part. Lithium "typically" makes people thirsty.. Yes increase your fluids will help keep your kidney's and whatnot happier
