Has anyone else experienced weight gain while taking Abilify? And did the weight go back down after you stopped taking it?

I gained about 10-15 pounds within a month without changing my diet (I've always been within a 5 pound weight range). I saw my doc today and am stopping it, but I'm worried that those extra pounds won't go away.

I recently started abilify so I am nervous about it. I also am a bit nervous about the potential body ticks it can cause.

I was only on 2mg, which I wouldn't think would cause any weight gain, but it was the only change in my life.

Ermygerd, I have no idea why anyone would want to take this medicine, it makes you a hollow lifeless zombie!!!!
Other than that personal opinion, I was only on a somewhat low dose for about three weeks, before I went absolutely mad (okay, well, madder :P ). I couldn't tell you for sure if it causes weight gain, because I had a series of untreated hormonal and metabolic conditions at the time, so I was gaining weight like crazy anyway...... but I DO know that, in my year-and-a-half of tampering with psychiatric meds, I gained over 50 pounds. So yeah- they can have those kinds of negative affects FOR SHIZZLE.

I just find it very strange that my weight was the same for years, until I started the Abilify. I guess I'll see now that I'm not taking it.

I have been on Abilify for a few months and have gained almost twenty pounds. It's so depressing. I've tried dieting. I've even had the flu and ate only applesauce for a whole week and still lost nothing. It seems that Abilify makes it impossible to lose weight. I"m going to ask my doctor if I can decrease my Abilify (currently at 20mg) and increase my lamictal (currently at 100mg). I'm so afraid that I'm just going to keep on gaining weight until I become a total whale. I gained 30lbs on Seroquel and can't go through that again.

Wow. That is a tremendous rate of weight gain. I gained about 3-4 lbs a year over several years. Slow and insidious, and without changing what I ate. Or rather, I ate less once the weight gain started and kept working out. I was only taking about 2 mg, and it was very effective for depression and anxiety. I've recently stopped it because I am now on something else that appears to be working for depression, and I'm waiting out the next few weeks to see if I relapse. It am hoping the weight I gained will come off, but it's too soon to know since I only stopped within the last week and a half.

I gained over 40 pounds on Abilify...that being said, when I came off of it, I lost over 20 pounds in less tham three weeks.

I was on Abilify for two years, and actually lost weight during that time period (with diet and exercise). At no point was weight gain a issue with any of the medications I have taken, however, we are all physiologically different, so each individual will have different side effects.

ive been on it for four months and i've lost weight while being on it too. I have had virtually no side-effects from it at all - a part from pretty bad short term memory loss. I'm on 10mg.

I was on Abilify and suffered severe weight gain. The weight didn't go away for me because the Abilify---->Weight gain---->Triggered PCOS with me. The condition makes it harder to lose weight.
Just eat healthy and exercise well- Cardio is something I've been doing and it's working.
