Hi,
does anyone have experience with remeron? My current pdoc is considering it for me. I'm massively concerned about weight gain, as I'm already overweight thanks. splitimage |

[I]depends on individual's body. Myself, I had hangover feeling the next evening and felt tired from it even after taking it at bedtime.

The first night I took it I slept til 5:30 the next evening...my pdoc said over time that side effect would improve by about 20%. Um, not good enough. I had another friend who got knocked on her bottom by it, too...so definitely try it on a friday or saturday or some night where you have nothing else to do the next day. My pdoc swears not everyone has such a strong "knocked-out" effect by it.
He said I might get more hungry than I had been (but I am underweight a bit)...I told him if that were to become an issue (for me that is gaining more than 3 lbs), I stop. But I have some food and control issues, obviously. Anyway, we never got to that pt. with it anyway. He did say people gain weight on it from eating more from being hungry, not just the drug itself. I wish you the best of luck, finding the right med is so hard...I still haven't. |

I was recently on Remeron for about 3 months. It worked for my anxiety and insomnia for the first few weeks, but started fizzling out. I gained quite a bit of weight, almost 30lbs. I think that was more damaging to me that the anxiety and the insomnia. I was hungry more and I did have different types of cravings, but I usually ignored them. I didn't change how I ate and I continued to excercise the way that I had, but I still gained weight.
The drug does work for many people, but I was one of those that had the nasty side effect of weight gain. I don't want it to seem like you shouldn't take it, but you should definitely be made aware of the possibilities - I was not and I was really mad at my pdoc for that. I hope it works for you and that you don't have any negative side affects. |
