Hi everyone,

Today I saw my therapist and I've decided to get back on medication for my depression. I have been on them before but thought they werent helping and made me gain weight. So I am wondering what medications work and if there are any serious side affects. I am looking for a strong dosage because i think thats how severe my depression is. SO please give me your input and experiences.

You might not NEED a strong dose regardless of how severe your depression is, it all depends on how your body metabolizes it.
As for side effects, there are many and varying side effects depending on the type of medication.
If you are really concerned about weight gain, wellbutrin and viibryd seem to be less likely to cause weight gain.
Best thing you can do is talk to your doctor/pdoc and see what they want to give you and ask them about side effects and stuff.

Anti-Depressants (SSRI's, SNRI, DNRI's) aren't known to cause significant weight gain, compared to things like antipsychotics.

One of the most effective and often prescribed is Prozac.
In my experience, it worked pretty damn well, but as nicoleb2 said, there's also Wellbutrin.

I also had a very good experience with Wellbutrin, but note that it is a stimulant,
so anxiety and psychotic symptoms will almost always worsen.
