Hello,
I am not sure if this is the right place to post but I have been struggling with depression for many years. I was on an antidepressant for 20 years and it stopped working. I decided that before I try a different one, I wanted to take lab tests that would maybe help explain what was causing my depression rather than take another drug with possible side effects. I found out that I have a thyroid issue and adrenal fatigue. In the meantime, I was given some Deplin samples to try and it seemed like I had some really good days on it and so decided to fill my prescription and purchase 6 months worth (15mg, 90 day supply). I was taking 7.5mg per day. I also followed a vitamin regimen and made some lifestyle changes. Curious to see if Deplin was making that big of a difference I stopped taking it to see what would happen. Well, I felt no different and continued to have some really good days without it. In short I have an almost brand new bottle of Deplin and have no need for it. It cost me $144 and it seems like a waste to throw it away. I don't know if reselling it would be a good idea or is even allowed, but if anyone is interested let me know. |

Hi! Sorry we were slow at getting to your post.
If I were you, then I would stay on the meds if they were indeed prescribed for specific health problems, like thyroid and adrenal issues. You might confirm that with your doctor. I wouldn't think just going off of them for a few days would be an appropriate test of their effectiveness. I take a thyroid pill every day for a "low thyroid." I didn't even know I had this problem until I was tested! Also, these drugs might take a bit to "kick in" anyway. These are my thoughts, anyway. ![]() |

I've taken Deplin for about 7 months. I think it has had some positive effects, but I'm not 100% sure because a lot has been going on in those months and it is hard to know what is what. The reason that I started on Deplin was that I have serious problems with depression (BP II), but I was trying to minimize meds due to trying to get pregnant. The bonus with Deplin for this purpose is that it is a form of folate and folate is very important to a healthy pregnancy. I do think it helped me keep my lamictal dose down.
Also, my pdoc apparently gets a lot of samples, so I have yet to pay for it. ![]() Best, EJ |
