Just need advice and a chance to vent...

I started taking Prozac (20mg) again a week ago. It's not my first time taking it -- I used to take it for about a year and half three years ago. Because of my history with the med, I wanted to take Prozac and not something else that I wasn't familiar with. But since taking it, I've been feeling nauseous (and that's the reason I decided to go back on meds, hoping that it was a result of my anxiety / depression). I've also had some really crazy, vivid dreams about people and places in my past that I don't really want to think about. My mouth has been really dry. And finally, I've been feeling really depressed since last night. Part of me wants to go back and stay at a psych hospital for a couple of days, a week. But the other part of me knows that I can't. I don't have insurance right now and I owe so much in medical bills -- which is one of the reasons for my ongoing depression. Not making enough money, not having finished college (which was because of my depression).
Anyway, getting back to topic on hand, I don't really mind the side effects. I just don't wanna be depressed. It's only been a week and I know you have to give it four or five weeks before you feel the full effect of the med.
I don't know why I posted this. I guess I just wanted to vent. I guess I just wanted to talk to someone. I have very few friends. I'm very anti social and a hermit. And yet I still just wanted to talk to someone.

I'm glad you're trying the Prozac again. Remember, though, that there are plenty other antidepressants out there, too.

Feel free to vent any time! We are here and we care!

I know that there are tons of other antidepressants out there but, I don't know, I just wanna stick with Prozac. Call me crazy but it's almost like an old friend. And I reeeeally don't want to have to go through the process of finding something else that works just as well. I really hope that Prozac ends up still working for me.

Thanks! I may take you up on that with my venting. :P

Hi Arethusa,

You turned up the corners of my mouth for a moment, so thank you! I rarely smile / laugh. Since I've been depressed I've felt like a hermit too but wanting to talk to others.

I've been trying antidepressants since Jan. I started Prozac a week ago as well. So we're on the same schedule! I've had no side effects, but no effect either yet. It stinks waiting when you want a good effect so badly. The other 2 I tried I never had any positive effect, but had really bad side effects with one of them, yet continued for 2 mos. with it because I really hoped it would have an effect (prescriber told me 6- 8 weeks). A beneficial effect in mood would outweigh the side effects for me, and I like you didn't want to go thru waiting another 6 weeks or however long for another one to possibly or possibly not take an effect.

So I have no idea really, but I just wanted to say I'm in the same boat. I guess we just have to decide what we want to do, with the help of the options & suggestions presented to us with the prescriber. I really hope it is just going to kick in for you real soon...easiest option. It stinks to wait.

Take good care....thinking of you. Grace
Thanks for this!

I recently returned to taking Prozac, too.
Keep in mind that the side effects are temporary and they will go away, probably in another week ~ so you're halfway there!
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the encouraging remarks! It's been ten days for me, still feeling the side effects: dry mouth, a little spacey at times, loss of appetite, a dash of insomnia. But still holding on. Twenty more days...

Ya, keep us posted. And tell me when the good effects kick in! It'll help me hang in too. I hate the waiting game.
