For a long time, I was afraid to take prozac because I heard all these horror stories about people who went on murder sprees and/or committed suicide after taking prozac--or upping their dosage. I finally started taking it, and even tho I had some mild side effects, for the most part it's calmed me down! And I'm at the highest dose allowed! And I don't know anyone personally that killed themselves-or anyone else--because of prozac.

Can't believe what you hear. I've never heard of this myself. I feel it's one of the safer drugs due to length of time on market. I know people who take and it works for them.

Just watch your symptoms and call MD if get thoughts of suicide or violence.

Well partly i don't think it is the drug itself but maybe how its metabolized in some people and people might decide to not take it or whatever and then they have a dangerous discontinuation reaction even if they are taking it regularly. I could be wrong.

No one really knows why it causes that in some people. Don't let that potential dissuade you, just be cautious. Monitor yourself or have a friend/ family warn you if you seem more anxious or disturbed.

look on the back of a packet of parcetamol there are more side effects than most AD,s , but it dont stop billions of people taking them every day.

Hey, one of my cats takes it (truly...he is not 100% stable) and he is by far less homicidal.
I just can't because it's like I have food poisoning...my system can't deal. It's just awful. Ugh. I am amazed I haven't really heard anyone else say the same thing, but then I usually am that 1% with the really odd, crappy side effects.
Good luck to you. I hope it continues to work!

prozac did eventually poop out on me after 3 years, it took 3 more trails to find another med to help and no half killl me. I tried about 10 years later to get back on it but my body was haveing none of it and it made me really sick to the point it was put on my med records no prozac. i was only on 20mg the 3 years i was on started straight at 20mg an stayed there has it failed i tried 40mg but reolised my time with prozac was over.

I have been on Prozac for a week, I am still taking 2 other AD int eh evening and prozac mornings,Ive felt no difference yet.I tried this 2 years ago, only was on it for 6 weeks and went of because I couldnt afford it.I had been on Seroquel and let me tell you that is one bad pill, I spiraled down so low I tried to kill myself, had to be taken into the clinic and be watched and was taken of that and put on to Prozac.
Ive read all the stories about Prozac, and really if we be aware of ourselves while on this we will know to go to the doctor. This pill wouldnt be on the market long as its been had it been something dangerous,I mean I know all these AD carry with it side effects and not everyone has them.
We have to do what works best for us.

I didn't want to kill people but I did want to beat my roommate up. I was very angry and violent.
