Until the end of January, I was frequenting PC nearly daily. Had a lot of negative impressions of all the meds I had been on and others tried to stick me on. So I thought I would at least come back and update.

At the end of January, I was SUI and I SI'd on a Thursday. By Thursday night, I was voluntarily admitting myself to the hospital. I was there and the pdoc wanted to put me on Abilify and Lithium. I grudgingly gave in and said yes to the Abilify but refused the Lithium. I had never been diagnosed bipolar so didn't see a need for the Abilify. I began the drug while in the hospital. Didn't feel great, didn't feel SUI.

Came home after 4 days and after a few days, it was like someone had flipped a switch. I felt 'okay'. I didn't feel like harming myself at all, which usually happens after a short time out of the hospital. I found a PHP that would accept just my Medicare and went to a different one than I had been at. I was given Lithium and put onto the Bipolar track of the program. I was diagnosed BP2.

I'm still on the lithium, Abilify and an antidepressant and for the first time that I can remember, I'm doing okay, almost good. Sometimes great .

So I just wanted to say, even I, who was at the end of my rope with so-called psych drugs, was able to find something that, so far (fingers crossed) has left me in better shape. Finally getting the correct diagnosis has helped to!

So that is my update. I'm on meds right now and for the first time in my 50 year-old life, I feel like I can make it!

Good luck to all out there.

I am so happy for you and now you have given me a glimmer of hope. I was looking for someone's opinion on here about Abilify. I haven't been on here for a long time, mainly because I am sooo tired that everything takes a lot of effort. I have never been diagnosed as bipolar either so when the doc suggested it a few years ago, I turned him down flat. I have tried different meds and every year the fatigue and hopelessness is getting worse. I see all these commercials about it so I wondered if I should give in and try it. Thank you so much for posting this!

Abilify is also prescribed along with an antidepressant for major depressive disorder. Not just BP.

Thank you for sharing. We don't get many of the success stories about meds on this board.

You're welcome. Yes, YMMV with Abilify, but it's been a life saver for me.

Take Care
