Hi folks,

I posted a version of this call for help in the OCD section... I hope that I'm allowed to post it here... anyway, here goes...

I am an OCD sufferer and been on many meds. My most recent attempt to get a hold on my condition has been to try Luvox. I have been on it now for three days (50mg). Days 1 and 2 were great, the impact has been immediate. However, I have developed the common side effects of constant sneezing, itchy eyes and scratchy throat.

Please, please tell me this goes away! When I was on Cipramil, I could handle the disappearance of my sex drive... which never really returned. I managed to live through that. I hate the idea now that the trade-off for potentially being in control of my OCD would be to suffer these flu-like symptoms.

Anyone experience these side-effects and if so, for how long did it last?

I'm supposed to go up to 100mg tomorrow and I fear that these side-effects will only get worse!

I know that I might sound like an ungrateful idiot. I know that some people would give a leg to find a drug that works and here I am complaining about what may appear to be a minor side-efect. However, when I sneeze, its not just one sneeze, its like I am having a seizure in my sinuses. And when it happens, it feels like it will never stop.

Should I be looking at taking anti-hystemines in the future?

This is so frustrating...

How are you doing now? I take 300 and I initially had a problem with vomiting. But that stopped about two weeks in. I hope you are feeling better.

I would definitely talk with your pdoc about the side effects & I would do a lot of internet research about it also....not just what you can find out here.

Good link to look at:
Luvox (Fluvoxamine Maleate) Patient Information - HealthyPlace

I have had similar sneezing but it has nothing to do with meds because I'm not on anything other than a pain medication.....but I understand that non-stop sneezing.....& the almost seizuer like feeling in the sinus....I get almost a reverse sneezing feeling which is really strange...but I don't have allergies either.

I have had such horrible side effects on so many different meds including one for asthma that made my voice go away when I was in the medical hospital for the asthma/bronchitis caused by a forest fire smoke....I can tell you though that no side effects are trivial. Even the dry mouth one was horrible when I was playing my flute professionally, I couldn't handle it.....so don't trivialize your side effects......especially the sneezing & flu-like symptoms....no one would ever be expected to live with symptoms like that even for as long as it might take to go away.

I would definitely do more research....many times Dr's don't even understand the side effects the meds can have. My Ortho gave me benedryl because of the burn on my skin under the cast from the bedidine they put in there when they opened the cast to check if there was an infection......I woke up right after taking it & couldn't breath...it was like my throat closed up......I did some research even before internet was available & found out that was a rare side effect of benedryl that my ortho had no idea about.....It might have been one of the fillers in the capsul ingredients....but it doesn't matter what it was from....it was still there with the capsul of benedryl....so that's on my "don't take list" which is a LONG one.

Wish you the best with this
