The current research seems to say that COX-2 inhibitors (eg. Celebrex) are more likely to cause cardiovascular bad stuff than plain NSAIDs (eg. ibuprofen, diclofenac) however that does not necessarily mean that you have to avoid it.
The studies often used doses of 400-800mg/day of Celebrex - in Australia 200mg is the highest dose used for most people and it seems to be sufficient. The risk of adverse effects tends to increase with dose. Also the increased risk is just that - if you are at very low risk of a heart attack (eg. if you are young, low blood pressure, normal cholesterol, no family history) then it's probably not something you need to worry about too much. Also if it's going to be a short term or occasional medication then it's less of an issue as well. However if you are at higher risk (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history, smoker... etc) and it's for long term use then worth discussing your concerns with your doctor. Another thing to consider is if you have stomach problems - if you have stomach problems then the risks with Celebrex are less than with normal NSAIDs. The mechanism of how it causes cardiovascular stuff is actually really interesting to med/pharm nerds like myself! |

My husband takes Celebrex and he has not had any problems.... and with my RA I have been on several diff meds for the last 10 years and let me tell you that they all have side effects, big & small, just like any others medicine does and will have.... just pick which ever one works best for you and the pain.
Good Luck.... LoVe, Rhapsody - ((( hugs ))) |

I have taken celebrex with good results, for a herniated disc. It stops the spasming faster than ibuprophen.
Speaking only for myself here, when I'm having a full blown spell with my back, I hardly give a hoot whether the med I'm taking carries a minute possibility of ill effect. The pain is so bad that all I can focus on is short-term relief. My risk profile is fairly low, and back spells have become infrequent, thank Goodness! |

Hi Doc , and ALL
I've been on prozac, seroxat, effexor, luvox since 2003. And now on lorazepam but still have side effects of the med. like vomitting, nausea, dizziness, headache, still feeling suicidal my pdocs told my parents that they wanna to study me but am terrified due to some events happened in hospital recently 20th August 2006 some traumatic events happened to me in the hospital........ And do not trust most of the pdocs. what must I do ? I felt that the reason why im vomit and nausea its due to intense anxiety that I have. Even felt numbness on my whole body.....
