Im so sleepy and cant wake up! I cant even stay away for more than 2 hours before I need a nap. I am on 8 mg of Risperdal and my doc said that was a pretty high dose. Maybe I need it taken down so I can be awake during the day? I cant drive or work or do anything needing a lot of attention and I hate it! My vision is also blurry and hard to focus on words or things close up. Any advice on what I should do? I have just been on Risperdal for 8 days, but I feel I cant afford to wait until my body gets use to it.

Call your pdoc to see what he recommends.

That is a high dose - did your pdoc, just start you at that dose - normally they titrate up. I'd call you pdoc and see about lowering the dose.

I'm on 4 mg, and it does make me sleepy, so I take it before bed, but I'm fine during the day.

I was given it while in psych hospital and they started me at 4mg and then upped it to 8mg 3 days later. I cant ask the pdoc who prescribed it cause I'm no longer in the hospital.

When do you see a pdoc (I am assuming you were set up with one before discharge)? You NEED to have a pdoc. If you have one set up, make a call and speak to that pdoc. If you don't have one arranged, get that arranged ASAP and in the meantime get in to see you regular doctor so you have someone monitoring your meds.

Hi,

From what I've observed and experienced, the main goal of psychiatrists who see us in a hospital setting is to get us "stabilized" so that we're not a danger to ourselves or to others like we presumably were when we entered the hospital. The medications prescribed to serve the goal of stabilizing us in a hospital setting aren't always the same as the medications that would be prescribed to serve the goal of helping us to be as functional as possible in our day-to-day lives. I agree with the poster who suggested that you get in contact with the psychiatrist that you've been assigned to for outpatient care as soon as possible to let him or her know about the reaction you've been having to Risperdal at 8 mg. Your psychiatrist needs to know how you're doing on your medication regimen so he or she can adjust the doses of your medications to levels that are suitable for your individual needs and for the outpatient treatment of your psychiatric condition.

T.

Do you take it at night? I tried risperdal but had a reaction with prolactin.

I would recommend taking your med at night as this will help you get used to it without the drowsiness (hopefully)
