just left my new pdoc.

my last pdoc gave me a bipolar NOS diagnosis and a depressive disorder NOS diagnosis and only had me on wellbutrin

I moved. My new pdoc flat out told me I fit the bipolar II type then hit me with the script of Lamictal and Geodon...

What can I expect? I've taken paxil, wellbutrin, and ativan(benzo) in the past 7 months.
Thanks for this!

So far I've only ever tried sertraline (bad idea I went STRAIGHT into the most hypomanic phase I've ever been in) and once the pdoc saw me he put me onto Lamictal.

I'm still only on 50mg but so far I'm finding it really good. I haven't been having any side affects, aside from a few days where I was EXHAUSTED and felt ill. And I've noticed that my mood is starting to stable out (after the sertraline wore off and when I started on the lamictal I went back into a mild down time but the last few days that's been lessening up)

well from what I know, lamicatal and Geodon work to stabilize the moods from both ends. I hear lamictal is great for keeping people stabilized. im on Geodon now and it seems to be working fairly well to manage my moods so it sounds like it could be a good mix.

Lamictal has a reputation for helping a little for the depressive phase of the cycle in addition to its stabilising properties. I can't comment on Geodon though.
There is a small chance of you developing a rash with Lamictal, usually relatively early on in your taking it. It can potentially develop into a very serious rash, so report any outbreak of rashes to your pdoc immediately.

I've been on Lamictin 200mg (identical to Lamictal) for a year, along with Epilim 800mg.
These have been the least distressing drugs for me so far, over the last 3 years.

I haven't had a full duration manic episode since I have been on them, or a long depressive episode either. Maybe they are doing something right.
However, I have not stopped ultra rapid cycling with mixed, manic, suicidal, paranoid and perceptual problems spiking out every month or so from my regular moderate weekly cycle.

So for me they are probably not doing a strong enough job, and we are considering putting me back onto antipsychotics to tighten things up a bit.

The outlook for bipolar II is probably a whole lot better on those meds than has been my experience.

I hope you soon find the right treatment to make life a whole lot more manageable.
Take care.

Geodon made me very sleepy,I think I was overmedicated. The lamictal gave me a very painful rash, hurt my liver even. Hope you do better on them.
