Hello everyone

I have schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, and the dr took me off of abilify becouse it was not working very well for me. And put me on Saphris. I been on it for a week now. I take 5mg twice a day. I was wondering if anyone took this med before? If so how long did it take to get the full effect of the medication? How well did it work on mood and psychotic symptoms?

Hi I've been taking it for 5 weeks now and all it does to me is make me sleep. I hope you have some luck. Oh yeah it makes me have bad hang over type feelings in the mornings. Please reply I would like to know it works.

I've been taking Saphris for about 5 weeks also. It has been very helpful to me, particularly in slowing down my rapid thinking. Other than the awful taste, I've had no side effect problems. I take it and go directly to bed though because I can feel the effects within about 15 minutes, but no hangover in the morning. I've been pleased.

I still have auditory and visual hallucinations and voices but it helping me know what is real and not witch is giving me the power to take control of the situation. I have only notice two side effects with is akathisia and sleepiness, but they gave me a medication for the akathisia with helps allot.

Well I slept and slept, Something I have not done in months, That part is fabulous... But I have been Manic as hell today .. Can not stop running around doing every chore cleaning project possible. I am also on Panic attack number 8 or 9 for the day .. I normally never have a panic attack .. maybe 1 in the last year. I am not sure yet if this is due to Saphris .. I do think I will skip tonights dose.

I am sorry to hear that you are having panic attacks. and I am sleeping allot also I think it is the Saphris. I use to get panic attacks but take but I take buspirone 15mg two times per-day and it seems to help prevent them. Plz keep me updated if you don't mind.

I too have schizoaffective bi-polar disorder. I have been taking Saphris after coming off Abilify as in your case. I have been taking Saphris for more than eight months now and have never felt better. While it does taste nasty and puts you to sleep rather quickly, the benefits have been worth it. I cannot stress enough how much my mood, sleep pattern, and energy levels have improved since being on Saphris.
I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

Thanks for sharing that with me as the abilify did not work much so my dr gave me Saphris i am doing allot better now, it seem to be the best antipsychotic i have been on but i am now sleeping allot. Is thrre anything the dr can do for the drowsiness.

the numbness in your mouth is a normal side effect to saphris. I took it for some time and it did not work for me now I am on seroquel and abilify . Not sure they work either.

kai1211...the drowsiness side effect can really only be remedied by taking it at bedtime. and, I do mean like after you've brushed your teeth, ready to get in bed.

I've been on Saphris for a week now. My mouth tingles like when the dentist's freezing comes out, it's distracting but not bad. My really big complaint is the drowsiness. I'm suppose to increase my dose to morning and bedtime, but it knocks me out cold for about 3 hours. Should I be asking for another medication to counter or has anyone found anything else that helps? I don't want to give it up, it has been a God send.

I was put on Saphris a week ago and it produced akathisia(sp?) and EPS symptoms on my second dose, so my doc immediately stopped the med.

My doctor switched me from Seroquel to Saphris because he thought it would help me lose the weight I gained. I think that the melting action in your mouth is supposed to bypass the serotonin receptors in your stomach. Anyway, I had to stop taking it because it made me feel terrible and I had an awful time sleeping.

However, I have a friend who swears it changed her life. Everybody's different, I guess. Good luck!

I'm back on Seroquel and trying to lose weight.
