I know that Xanax has been used for depression and other mental disorders, but has any one heard of it being used for Fibromyalgia or as a muscle relaxer?

I know it's used as a muscle relaxer, that's part of why they use it in anxiety disorders, I think. I can ask my mom... she takes it for both muscle relaxation and for anxiety.

I know Valium is prescribed for a muscle relaxer. Xanax is a benzodiazepine like Valium, so I would think it could be used this way also.

I take it for anxeity and for back pain, I have arthitis in my back and it seems to calm down the spasms, it is a very relaxing drug, so be careful if you have to drive.

Kewl!! - Thx everyone.... I will talk with my doctor about it this week and maybe he will give me some.... and the best part is that I have RA - FIBRO - ANXIETY, so it can work for all three.

I take it at night to relieve anxiety so I can sleep. I've been taking it for about 17 yrs. & have not had to increase dosage or had any problems with it. I don't take it during the day despite anxiety occurring because it makes me so sleepy. Don't drive after taking Xanax.--Suzy

All benzos cause some degree of muscle relaxation and can work very well for fatigue associated with fibromyalgia. Jerry
