ok, I was on Paxil after having my 1st daughter 4 yrs ago, it was good, but I gained about 40 pounds on it.....so my dr switched me to zoloft. Worked great. I weaned off it and things were fine. Then I got preg. with my 2nd daughter. at 6 months pregg I went back on Zoloft. That worked fine until about three months ago. Then my dr switched me to Lexapro. It is ok, but I am tired all the time, I am eating like there is no tomorrow and feel blah. He mentioned switching to Wellbutrin, but I am petrified of that drug after reading about it. Any thoughts?

I took Wellbutrin for a number of years, until it made me cycle (bipolar) in a really unpleasant way. Other than that, my experience was pretty positive...definitely made me quit smoking YAY! It shouldn't drag you down energy-wise, either. So, all else being equal I'd say give it a shot!

I'm curious, what bad things have you heard?

I'd like to know what bad things you heard about Wellbutrin, too. I was on it a couple winters ago. I got depressed & it was added to my mood stabilizers & other stuff. It really helped & I was able to go off it in the spring. I'm having a bit of a down trend now (my "episode" of a month ago), so I may be put on it again. I see doc in a week or two. I had an appt. & cancelled it cuz I was too ashamed at admitting my behavior & then a friend from support group told me it wasn't fair to have her treat me without giving her all the info. about what was going on with me so I made another appt.--Suzy

I have heard about seizures and a friend of mine's cousin was on it and had a stroke on it. I like to have wine now and then and the materials all say not to and they give all the seizure scray information. Am I wrong?

The seizure stuff is really scary sounding, but it's really only a danger for really high doses (above 450mg/day). They don't like to prescribe it to people with seizure disorders. Also, if you're talking about a glass of wine every once in a while, I wouldn't feel too bad about that, either. I rarely drink anymore, but I never had any trouble with the occasional glass of wine or bottle of beer. If you're talking one or two a day, I might reconsider...

I was kind of worried about the seizure thing at first, but I took 450mg/day for a couple of years with no problem. If you do not have a history of seizures already, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If it were me, I would cut way back on the wine for the first few weeks, til I got up to your full dosage, then add the alcohol back in slowly. Again, I don't think you'll have a problem, but I would be careful until you're comfortable with the Wellbutrin.

Hope things go OK!

I do know what you mean...I kind of stopped because of psych meds, but also, I've pretty much had my share over the years, if you know what I mean... Meds
