I am back on citalopram aka Celexa. 10mgs in the AM. Last time I was on it, I noticed a difference in a week. My anxiety was decreased as was my obsessive thoughts and depression. I was on it almost a year then tapered off. Its been 2 1/2 weeks now and no change. Only difference I notice is that my hives from constant anxiety are gone. But my anxiety is still here along with my obsessive thoughts and agoraphobia. How much longer till I feel better? Im an inpatient person. And I should throw in that my stress and thing in my life that are going on, are way way way worse than they were 3 years ago.

That's a pretty low dosage. Could it be your pdoc needs to increase it a bit? I think my son takes 40 mg.

Im really sensitive to Ssris (or so I thought). He upped it once the last time I was on it 3 yrs ago to 20mgs. Two days of it and I was a nervous wreck. Coulda just been in my head aIdk. I might try it again & mabye give the 20 mg dose more than a couple days.

And Thanks, George for responding

Talk to your doc before you make any changes.

MAYBE you ask to much to soon, go up to 20mg and give at least 4 weeks, sounds like you should have stayed on the med and not come off it. If it aint broke leave well alone. lots stop there meds because they feel better , but its the med making you feel better so leave well alone when feeling good,

Im going to ask my doc about it first. Last time I tweaked my meds by myself, I got suicidal. My doc tapered me off Celexa 3 years ago I dont know why, but he did and I didnt need any meds (except 10 valium tablets for panic attacks). Just here in the last 6 months or so , have I needed anything. If I dont need a drug Im not going to take it and if I do need it, I get by with the lowest doseage possible for my symptoms.

I have heard about some people needed a higher dose after they stop taking an SSRI and then start again. If you went up to try 20mg again, you could always come back down.

Ive thought that too, BadWolf. But the side effects on the 10 suck! Blah! Ive had so far, everyday, loss of appitite, vertigo, ringing in my ears, awful hot flashes, extreme tiredness, a kinda achy head, increased anxiety/panic attacks & muscle fatigue. I know it the Celexa but its lasting forever! This was my 19th day. But Im gonna keep taking them. I know the SE will go away once the med gets in my system.
